Lincoln Heights: ABC Family TV Series Cancelled, No Season Five

Lincoln HeightsIt looks like the story of the Sutton clan has come to an end. ABC Family has quietly decided to cancel Lincoln Heights after four seasons.

Lincoln Heights tells the story of Officer Eddie Sutton (Russell Hornsby) who moves his family back to his old neighborhood. Other castmembers include Erica Hubbard, Nikki Micheaux, Rhyon Brown, Mishon Ratliff, Robert Adamson, and Michael Reilly Burke.

The TV show debuted on January 8, 2007 and the first season was successful enough to warrant a renewal by March. At that point, it was one of the cable channel’s higher performers in the key demographics.

While announcing that the second season would kick off in September 2007, ABC Family President Paul Lee said, “We really think we have something unique here… The fact that it’s an African American family drama alone separates it from the crowd, but its terrific cast and superb writing also make it truly special and perfect for ABC Family.”

Following season two, it took several months for ABC Family to decide to bring Lincoln Heights back for a third round. They finally did and that kicked off in September 2008. The audience grew and the show became the cable channel’s top performer among Females 12-34 and Female teens. It didn’t take as long to renew the series for year four.

Season four kicked off in September 2009. It ended up being one of the channel’s weaker programs of 2009, being outperformed by other ABC Family shows, including cancelled Kyle XY.

No specific reason was given for the Lincoln Heights cancellation. However, though it’s been favored by some critics, the series has never been a big hit for the cable channel and has only been given 10 episode renewals each season.

What do you think? Are you upset or surprised that the series has been cancelled? Do you think the last episode of Lincoln Heights is a worthwhile series finale?

I’m so sad this show got cancelled. There were so many questions that weren’t answered. They don’t even have a valid reason of why it’s cancelled. The least they could have down was made it a websisode. I’m disappointed it’s off because it showed you the true meaning of morals of young children and family members. The sutton family showed you positive things in life. Why would they want to cancel a show like that? Instead they play shows like Pretty Little Liars that talk about death and things that aren’t even important. They always want to cancel the African American shows. That’s what’s wrong with the world they don’t have enough African American shows on tv that show the true meaning of life.

I’m still to this day distraught about the cancellation of the only show that showed me light in a new direction. Lincoln Heights isn’t just a phenomenal series but a series that changes people for the better. The show shines light on African-American families and on the troubles we have faced. It opens minds to all types of aspects.
This show endures my heart and mind and i want more episodes of the drama and suspension i tend to love, without this show there’s no other way for African-American
to relate. I truly affirm that this show comes back with a hit to draw more attention cause I’m not the only one who finds this show as synonymous as i do. I relate
to this show deeply and i can’t go a day without watching it this show brings me life and i love the characters and scene of it , it warms my heart and soul and i feel apart of it.

Whoever canceled the show should be ashamed. They moved to the neighborhood with good and positive attention, and they really made a difference.

Perfect passion you are so correct, I love that show and everything about it.. Like you said it shows parents how to teach there kids morals and responsibilities. They where amazing actors, it didn’t look staged or anything, it was almost as if they where acting on there real emotions. That show was awesome, not to mention it helped my son to learn how to handle situations without violence, and to report any violence. Please please please please please pretty please do more seasons!
