TV show description:
This dramatic series revolves around Elizabeth McCord (Tèa Leoni), a newly appointed Secretary of State. She’s a shrewd and determined woman who drives international diplomacy, battles office politics and circumvents protocol as she negotiates global and domestic issues — both at the White House and at home.
A college professor and a brilliant former CIA analyst who left the agency for ethical reasons, Elizabeth returns to public life at the request of the President — following the suspicious death of her predecessor.
President Conrad Dalton (Keith Carradine) values her apolitical leanings, her deep knowledge of the Middle East, and her flair for languages. He also appreciates her ability to not just think outside the box, but to not even acknowledge there is a box.
McCord debates third world problems, finesses foreign dignitaries at work and does battle with the President’s combative Chief of Staff Russell Jackson (Željko Ivanek).
Elizabeth’s team includes her Chief of Staff Nadine Tolliver (Bebe Neuwirth), speechwriter Matt Mahoney (Geoffrey Arend), press coordinator Daisy Grant (Patina Miller), and her charming assistant Blake Moran (Erich Bergen).
In her personal life, she has a supportive husband, Henry (Tim Daly), and three children — Stephanie “Stevie” (Wallis Currie-Wood), Alison (Katherine Herzer), and Jason (Evan Roe).
Episode #120 — Leaving the Station
President Elizabeth McCord kicks off a new landmark political initiative with help from members of the World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s Soccer team, while Flo Avery (Cicely Tyson), who was born the day women were granted the right to vote, looks on. Opposing the initiative is Senator Amy Ross (Tyne Daley) from Ohio. Also, the McCords overcome last-minute obstacles to pull off a spectacular family celebration with a reunion of familiar faces, that includes a performance by Peter Frampton.
First aired: December 8, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think it should have ended or been renewed for a seventh season?
Great show. Realistic, smart, interesting people. Please do not cancel.
I don’t like watching TV very much but I LOVE this show. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL!
Do not cancel, renew!!!
Please do renew tholis series! It seems shows with powerful women don’t stand a chance unless the male stars are are equally powerful or smart. Look at the great series, Body of Proof as an example. That was really a thinking person’s sort od series and it is gone while tripe like Covert Affairs continue on. Not hating on Covert Affairs gu it is so like so many others. Please keep Madam Secretary on with her smart and diverse staff. Thank you.
please please please don’t cancel this show-best television since anything by sorkin-great chemistry-great acting-story lines amazing-I look forward to it every week!!
watched ten episodes in two nights and enjoyed them, not going to nitpick about the reality of the shows concept. the one thing that was overdone is the scenes between Matt and daisy totally unnecessary. would like to see season two
i agree on all counts!
The Madame Secretary should continue and be renewed for another season. Are there more episodes this season? It seemed rather short, I enjoy the show watching a woman whose career is very demanding who still finds some quality time for her family.
I enjoy it very much. I hope it continues for some time to come.
Great show. Very intelligent content and fascinating plot. Keeps you guessing “who done it”!!
A.H.
How do find it fair that you can rave you love the show and those of us that find it lack luster and that it lacks believability can’t state our opinion. This is an opinion postings website. Post with respect and agree to disagree if necessary. I stated my opinion and will continue to do so!
Love, love, love this show!!!
Great to see a strong woman lead role and its TV for heavens sake not everything is supposed to be realistic! Just enjoy the story lines and stop nit picking. Please keep the show going!
I do not like this show. How can a middle class, middle aged housewife suddenly become Secretary of State while baking cookies for her kid’s bake sale? OK, I mean realistically, not the scripted stuff the show has presented.
No nannies, babysittersor even Secret service? And, no she cannot dismiss them. They can give her some space, but she cannot get rid of them.
If she is a pol, then her family would work differently as we all know from watching real people. The show is miserable, if well acted.
Totally agree Naomi. On top of that it is just plain boring because the everyday life of this family is so not plausible! There must be a level of believability for a show like thos to succeed much like West Wing did. This show is no West Wing!
I also agree, this is a ridiculous show and deserves to be cancelled.
Love the show. Glad to see Tea Leoni back on the small screen. I hope they pick it up for a second season if not more
Great show and content
If you want a purely political drama this show isn’t for you go watch CNN. If you want a political drama mixed with a family drama Madam Secretary is a superb show for that.
