For the 29th season of The Amazing Race TV show, the teams are made up of complete strangers. Will the new spin on this long-running competitive reality series boost the ratings for CBS or turn off longtime viewers? Will The Amazing Race be cancelled or renewed for season 30? Stay tuned.
Phil Keoghan returns as host in the 29th cycle of The Amazing Race. This season of the CBS series once again features 11 pairs of contestants racing around the world in pursuit of a million-dollar prize. Before “GO,” the racers must complete a challenge to determine the pecking order for selecting a teammate, based only on first impressions.
Season 29 of The Amazing Race spans nine countries, 17 cities and 36,000 miles. The race kicks off in Los Angeles. Destinations this cycle include Panama City, Tanzania, Norway, and Greece.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
6/2 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The 28th season of The Amazing Race (Spring 2016) averaged a 1.05 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.636 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Amazing Race TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for another season?
5/13 update: CBS has renewed The Amazing Race for a 30th cycle for the 2017-18 season. Details here.
What are you trying to do? Kill the show. Friday nite at 10pm. that’s a knife in the heart. No wonder the ratings are down. Come on guys put it back in a GOOD time slot, Loved the show. Looked forward to it.
My husband & I love amazing race, in fact we should probably compete on the show as the ratings would soar. The competitions get better every season and the places of travel are wonderful. Fingers crossed it does not get cancelled ant time soon.
Its the best show on TV
They should have expected a drop in viewers las year when they changed it from Sunday to Friday night. Hey folks, people go out on Friday nights! Now that it’s on Thursday I think the ratings are better again. Everyone I know loves this show, I’d hate to see it end. The show getting stale is Survivor. They should have stuck to the original format where in season 1 they were allowed only the clothes they were wearing and 1 luxery item. Now they have almost anything they need really.
Renewed? YAHOOOOOO!
I miss the Amazing Race. I wish CBS would put it in a better time slot. If you are going to do 10-11 pm make it a Friday night. I feel as though CBS is trying to kill the show off. That is really a shame! I used to love it when it followed Survivor.
The Amazin Race is by far my most favorite reality television show and I would mourn the loss of this series. Timing is horrible for me tho, as I have to catch it online because of the day and time slot, and I think ratings are low because of all the sporting events that are currently airing the same time. Maybe CBS should consider a better day and time and ratings will certainly improve. P.S I get a lot of travel ideas from this show so please return with season 30. One last thing, those guys were wrong for what… Read more »
I have always LOVED the Amazing Race! But this year even I had a hard time keeping track of when Season 29 would be aired. New night, stupid time, random opener date – no wonder the ratings are bad! CBS is setting it up for failure, and that’s a big shame; even though the glimpse viewers get of different cultures and countries is superficial, it’s more than most network TV affords. I’d really mourn its loss. 🙁 Is it still being produced in other countries?
Mayita is totally correct…originally CBS said AT would be in the Fri MacGyver slot..come on…give AT some love… show is still great…wonderful episode in Zanzibar last night
AR not AT…keyboard too small
We love the amazing race, please do not cancel it. It’s ratings last night were probably due to how late it was on. I know families who like to watch together. Hard to do that at 10pm. Ps. We, my family, have never missed a season.
Thank you,
Krissy
Renew the Amazing Race! It’s educational and It’s quality television. The problem is viewers can’t keep up since the air date keeps changing from Sunday to Friday now Thursday. I’ve watched all 28 seasons and am so excited that season 29 finally started.
Thank you,
Sally Mally
Do not cancel the amazing race. It is a wonderful show and keeps getting switched to different days/times making it hard for those of us who have been avid fans from the beginning to find it. The twist this season of putting strangers together was hard at first getting to know everyone but it is becoming less confusing and we are still getting to vicariously experience different countries and cultures. Keep it going!!!
I completely agree with everyone else. Put THE AMAZING RACE on a better day & time. This has ALWAYS been my FAVORITE SHOW. I can’t afford to travel the world and this is a great way to experience some of it. It’s very difficult these days to watch or even record a lot of the best shows because of the sports that precede it running over. How about putting the sport on a sports channel… hey, now there’s a thought. Please don’t ever cancel THE AMAZING RACE!
