The executive producer of ABC Family’s 10 Things I Hate About You has confirmed that the TV show has been cancelled after two seasons. How quickly things can change.
Based on the film of the same name that starred Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Heath Ledger, 10 Things I Hate About You revolves around two very different high school sisters and their friends and partners. The series features the talents of Lindsey Shaw, Meaghan Jette Martin, Ethan Peck, Nicholas Braun, Dana Davis, Larry Miller, Kyle Kaplan, Ally Maki, Chris Zylka, Jolene Purdy, Allie Gonino, and Suzy Nakamura.
The series got off to a great start in July 2009 and ABC Family touted it as the cable channel’s biggest comedy debut to date. It attracted 1.6 million viewers and 734,000 in the coveted 18-49 demo. The news got even better by week four as the show’s ratings grew to 1.8 million viewers and 782,000 in the demo. Season one ended up averaging 1.3 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC Family renewed the series for a second season of another 10 episodes.

Unfortunately, something happened between seasons one and two. When the 10 Things returned in late March, a lot of the show’s viewers didn’t. Thus far, it’s been averaging just 983,000 viewers. That’s enough for ABC Family to pull the plug, just 10 months after the show’s highly touted debut.
The show’s creator and executive producer, Carter Covington, announced the show’s fate on Twitter: “Sad news… ABCFamily canceled the show 🙁 Thanks 2 our AMAZING fans – U R the reason I do this! Enjoy the last 5 eps – they’re fantastic!”
The remaining five episodes of 10 Things will continue to roll out until May 31st. Since the cancellation comes as a surprise, there’s no word if the series finale will include closure or if storylines will be left unresolved.

I think the only reason viewers werent coming back is because a lot of people cant afford dish or cable in economic hard time its one of the first things to go. I for one am mad that they cancelled it, I thought the show was great!!

I watch the show everytime it come on even if it was a re-run! I dnt y abc cancelled it the show I loved it but they need to let it come bck..just bc there wasn’t a lot of veiws doesn’t mean anyone else didn’t watch it…n they left it off on like the best part ever I really really wnt to kno wht happen! i agree. you cant just end a series like that….im not sure how u people figure out whos watching and whos not….r u paying any attention to those of us who watch it on the abc family site?? or just those who are watching it on tv?? very VERY big shame if u continue to not put the show back on the air….

Very disappointed that this show is cancelled! The reason it didn’t do well in the second season is that no one really knew when it would come back. As evidenced above, no one knew it was cancelled either!
agreed!! season 2 came back without notice and without many ads on tv, like other shows from the CW, for example. they advertise their show all the time and let u know when the next series airs. you all didnt do that with 10 thing. also didnt know it was cancelled. abc family does a very poor job of promoting themselves.very poor.

would you do such HORROR to the show, we as teenagers adored so very much. the show had to SOOOO much potential. At least have the utmost courtesy to do a season 3 to satisfy the watchers. Example: say u were at a movie and it was cut at the climax. How would u feel? disappointed? torn into pieces? useless? this is how u left ure fans.
i just found out that this AWESOME show…… got canceled! its AFFUL to leave us and END the entire series on that cliffhanger. they need to bring this show back, its waayyy better than the other shows (secret life of the american teenger) the cast was spectacular and i will never stop watching it……EVER

You really can’t leave the show at an end like that. Honestly. I was looking at Wiki to see when new episodes were going to be.. for Glee and Degrassi. So then I looked up 10 Things. Then I see the word “canceled” and almost fell out of my seat. How could you guys do that? You can’t blame low ratings. 1.) The season wasn’t in the summer like the first season. 2.) I am so upset that 10 things was cancelled. That was a huge cliffhanger and not having a third season is just plain wrong. I looked forward to this show until the second it came on. I missed it sometimes because of work or school, but i watched it online and I bet a lot of people watched it online as well. you cant just leave off like that!!! that was the biggest cliffhangers EVER! i loved that show and tried to watch it every night it was on but sometimes i missed it but i watched it online. i think this show was a hit, it didnt deserve to get canceled. shouldnt viewers have the final say? my vote: bring it back. Please take us into consideration
