It was revealed yesterday that ABC had decided not to order any additional episodes of 666 Park Avenue. The show may not be technically cancelled but all acknowledge that it won’t be back. Thankfully all 13 episodes that have been produced are expected to air.
Before the show even premiered, One Million Moms (a site started by the conservative American Family Association) urged their readers to write to ABC to “strongly encourage” the network to cancel their plans to air the program. “Let them also know you are prepared to join thousands of other voices in urging advertisers to place it on their ‘do not advertise’ list and consider pulling all ads from the ABC network in protest.”
A later post lists some of 666 Park Avenue’s sponsors and encourages readers to email them in protest directly; Johnson & Johnson, Egg Beaters (ConAgra Foods), KFC (YUM Brands), Subway, Revlon, Colgate Total (Colgate-Palmolive), and Macy’s in protest of their commercial support.
Wednesday’s post claims victory, stating that none of the sponsors of the first episodes were seen advertising on later installments. The post urges readers to email their distaste for the program to other sponsors; Petco, Clorox, Outback, Dyson, Dairy Queen, and Red Lobster (Darden Restaurants).
While it was most likely just poor ratings that sank 666 Park Avenue, do you think that the protests to the network and their sponsors influenced ABC’s decision? Share your thoughts below.
Superb acting! Can’t believe this is being cancelled as it was entertaining and suspenseful. Can’t believe there was a protest over this show – it is just entertainment – lighten up people! It seems free choice is gone and it was our choice to watch this entertaining show.
I’m in my nineties, and I find it so preposterous,it’s entertaining.Rosemary’s Baby it ain’t,and perhaps better suited for someplace like ShoTime, but it’s a lot of fun. Compared with the well-publicized sexual shenanigans of some of our Public Servants and the Military,it is almost demure
Sorry my print is so small! I think my printer is going to predecease me!
I really did not see anything bad about this show. Out of how may station are now offered I would think anyone that did not like it could have had a choice of something else. I also think it had more to do with bad ratings cancelling it . If it don’t bring the producers money poof it is gone very sad but very true. I like many will miss it but the few of us who did enjoy it were not enough to keep the money flow going into the already rich peoples pockets.
Dont cancel!
Pls dont cancel this show ILOVE IT
Please do not cancel this show. This show does not harm anyone. What is wrong with a little guilty pleasure? Oh but you will keep other shows with questionable family values that are on television. Screw one million moms!!!
screw one million moms. I love this show! why do they always have to cancel the good shows? Ugh! So mad.
666 park av is a great show. dont cancek it
Please don’t cancel one of the few entertaining shows on television! It didn’t even have a chance to get in a time slot that might get more viewers. It has hot competition with shows like “Walking Dead” and “Dexter” opposite it. Please don’t end it!
This is an amazing show of all the shows to cancel. So I can see why people would have an issue since it doesn’t have explicit sex sex scenes or blood n guts they feel the need to mess with it. This is ridiculous to try to cancel in a time with such horror of life and not knowing what the next day will bring. This show brought intrigue to the household and some thing to wonder about. Worry about the hate and all the meanness outside these walls not what will entertain and help you forget inside these walls
I loved the show and never missed it. I think it sucks that it’s going off.
Glad they had the guts to cancel such trash. They can’t air shows for the 10% of immoral Americans who might watch it.
Ah yes, and as we are all aware, it’s the most “moral” people who make sweeping generalizations about people they don’t know. Good job buddy! You win the prize here!
Why not? They’ve been airing televangelists and other Christian criminals for years, so obviously that’s not the problem.
These million moms have No right telling the population what to
watch. Keep your paranoid, bible thumping views to yourself. Put your
damn kids to bed and turn the channel.
Im a mom and my daughter is in bed before 10 which I is where theese “million moms” with nothing better to do and no life kids should be. If they raised their kids properly then they wouldnt have to worry about trying to take such a great show off the air…
I will bet those “MOMS” sent their kids out Trick or Treating. Be ashamed, 10 pm time slot is for adults.
