There are 26 letters in the alphabet but NBC’s A to Z TV show only lasted five episodes before being cancelled. The peacock network has decided not to order any more installments beyond their initial 13 episode order.
A to Z follows the story of Andrew (Ben Feldman) and Zelda (Cristin Milioti) — two young people who are very different. Their relationship shouldn’t work and yet it does. Is it true love forever or just a detour in destiny? The rest of the cast includes Christina Kirk, Henry Zebrowski, Hong Chau, Lenora Crichlow, and Katey Sagal.
Debuting on October 2nd, the series got off to a poor start with a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.79 million viewers. Viewership fell 24% in week two and the ratings kept falling every week after that. This week’s installment, opposite CBS’ returning sitcoms, hit a new low with a 0.7 in the demo and 2.49 million viewers.
Based on the numbers, it’s no surprise that NBC is cancelling A to Z. It is a bit surprising however that the show is staying in production. Eleven episodes have been shot and two more will be produced. Hopefully, the sitcom’s writer will be able to adjust the remaining scripts to bring a fitting conclusion to Andrew and Zelda’s story.
For now, NBC plans to air the eight remaining episodes. The Blacklist will take over the Thursdays at 9pm timeslot on February 5th.
Companion sitcom Bad Judge has also been cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the A to Z TV show? Do you think that NBC should have cancelled it? Would you have watched a second season?
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by this show. We both really like the writing of the episodes each week and the great chemistry between Zelda and Andrew especially, but also amongst all the cast! If there was a petition to keep it going, we would both be willing to sign it!! PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THE SHOW “A TO Z”!!!
Oh I love this show! Please don’t cancel. Such a great cast and love the quirky and lovable characters that they play. It also brings to light present dating dilemmas in a delightful way. Just when I starting to enjoy watching that had real good talent. Don’t cancel.
Oh no! I love this show! So sad to see it go! Ugh!!
They should have a least let it finish the last of 13 episodes and then cancelled the show.
i hope it has a good ending……
does EVERYTHING have to be about money? maybe if you greedy ******** did not put it on the same time as scandal…seriously NBC I HATE YOU…I just canceled my tv provider…I am sick of the crap you serve on tv -you finally have a great show and you get rid of it. nice job idiots!
So sad this show got cancelled. I had finally found a charming show that I could keep watching when my kids were in the room. I guess that was the problem!
Boo! Why do all the good shows get cancelled?
So sad to see cancelled, best show in a long time. Why always cancel good TV So few shows with honest, clean fun! Sick of Zombies/Vampires !
Going to really miss this show.
It is a funny clever show. Andrew and Zelda are entertaining enough, but the surrounding cast really makes the show. It is really to bad that the networks won’t let a show develop its audience anymore. There have been so many great shows in the past that took a season or two to find an audience. They should have let this one have a chance.
I am so sad that it is canceled! It is my favorite show on NBC this year! I can’t believe it is cancelled! For that, I’ll no longer watch NBC this year until a show I love comes back (like the Comeback on HBO)! This is the only show I get so happy to watch on Thursday nights. I clear eveything and sit down with a box of Chardonnay and two pounds worth of chocolate and watch the entire episode until it ends! BUT, NBC cancels it! I am so frustrated how they always go for ratings but not for… Read more »
Why do the good ones always get canceled? Show is funny and sweet not dumb and annoying like others in its genre. Both lead characters are great…hope to see them again soon.
So sad this has been cancelled. We have been loving this on Hulu! The characters are interesting and funny and original. What’s not to love? Come on Advertisers! Get after it. This is a great show.
so i dont get it, those it got cancelled because i saw a new episode….. it could be better just ending at, i like that show cause the main girl is hot!!!!
Well, my family finally found a sitcom we all loved and they’ve gone & cancelled it…. What’s up, NBC? Was it too sweet? Too witty? Too refreshing? Bad judgment again, guys! We are beyond sad…
this show was not your typical formula, and in fact, offered a genuine look at how love does not have to be manipulative and deceptive. The two main characters were so “real” in their enthusiasm, it was a delight to watch.
I am so sad to hear that A to Z is being cancelled. I fell in love with the show and look forward to new episodes each week. It’s a charming, quirky, and funny show. The lead actors were well-cast, and I think the computer programmer couple was hilarious. Big Bird and the main guy’s best friend were so so, they’re good actors but maybe the characters themselves could have a little adjustment. Am hoping for a miracle that they save the show, I’m really going to miss it.
