Matthew Shear is joining the cast of The Alienist TV show on TNT. He joins stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Robert Wisdom and Q’orianka Kilcher. Jakob Verbruggen is directing the historical psychological crime drama. Creator Cary Fukunaga, Eric Roth, Hossein Amini, and Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Rosalie Swedlin are executive producing. Production will begin in early 2017 in Budapest.
When a series of murders grips the city, newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt taps criminal psychologist (aka alienist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Evans) to conduct the investigation in secret. The Alienist is set to premiere on TNT, late in 2017. Shear will play Police Sergeant Lucius Isaacson.

Although this casting news has not yet been posted to the Turner press site, Deadline has the skinny on Shear’s character.
Based on the international best-selling novel by Caleb Carr, The Alienist is a psychological thriller set during the Gilded Age of New York City in 1896. [Shear] will play Police Sergeant Lucius Isaacson, an extremely intelligent, focused man whose medical studies have helped hone his expertise in criminal science. Bright, pleasantly likable with a passion for his work, he believes that bones provide the most accurate information when it comes to forensics. He joins his twin brother Marcus in helping unravel a disturbing mystery.
