NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
This is a disgrace to cancel the best show on TV.
The head of programing should be fired.
She’s an airhead and has no taste !
This is VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING!
Its infinitely superior to the AMERICANS
The head of programming is inept and shouldn’t even be in charge of cartoon programming,
I’m at a total loss of what to say except its time to look for a new job!
She’s got zero taste! Get a new career ..
Maybe this is why NBC is failing in the ratings!
Very very very disappointing! Find a new job … SOON!
After watching the 1st four episodes of Allegiance, I was so happy that there’s a new show to add to my faves. I was just thinking how great t.v. writing is getting and then I saw that it’s cancelled. Unbelievable! Wouldn’t it be nice if networks tried out a show this good in a different time slot and found it was a huge ratings success there?!
I don’t watch slot of tv due to my schedule but I started watching alliegence and I love the show ; the cast is great as well as the story line shame on NBC leave it to them to cancel a good show I knew there was a reason not to watch anything on this network because more then likely it will be canceled if you like it
This is an extremely disappointing, yet completely unsurprising move on NBC’s part. My wife and I are very frugal about our television watching, we are busy people in that key 18-49 demographic, thus we are very selective about what we watch. ‘Allegiance’ was one of the good ones. And people wonder why traditional Network television is dying and up and coming channels such as AMC, or premium channels such as Showtime, HBO and Startz are dominating. Clearly they are hiring people who know what they are doing. Lastly.. ‘The Slap’, I think everyone saw that failure train coming from the… Read more »
The Slap? What a joke!
Needless to say, they are more than a few of us that are very disappointed that NBC has cancelled “Allegiance”. The cast was superb, and with the right time slot, this show had all of the makings of a hit. Its hard to make something a success, if it is set up for failure. I think the network made a mistake by letting this one go, and need to consider that the viewers most likely to watch this are probably seeing it on the DVR. This does not equate to “real time” ratings and skews the true viewer population.
I could not have said it better than Dr. Rick so I won’t even try . .. except to add that, in my opinion, this was yet another dumb decision!
I’M SO DISAPPOINTED IN THE CANCELLATION OF ALLEGIANCE
THIS WAS MY FAVORITE SHOW ON TV.
IT IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE AMERICANS.
THE PROGRAMMER NEEDS TO BE FIRED . THIS SHOW WAS BEYOND BRILLIANT.
THE ACTING WAS SUPERB! LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS. THE OLDER SISTER IS SO TALENTED AND THE BROTHER DESERVES AN EMMY. IN FACT THE SHOW IS WORTH OF AN EMMY.
IS THERE ANYWAY TO GET THESE COMMENTS TO THE HEAD OF THE NETWORK?
THE ACTORS NEED TO KNOW HOW GREAT THIER CHEMISTRY WAS TOGETHER.
SUPER SUPER TALENTED CAST.
I agree with everything you said!
I think once again it appears that the people that make decisions at NBC are lost . That was the nicest way to put it. The first couple of weeks of this show were up against the final of “how to get away with murder” . What did you think was going to happen. Now after 5 episodes your canceling the show. Did you think everyone that had been watching murder all season was suddenly going to start watching a new show. People are not ready to invest themselves in a new show if you are just going to pull… Read more »
I love Allegiance and am so sorry it will be cancelled.
My husband, myself, and our teen-aged son love this show! I particularly liked how quirky Alex is…how all the CIA guys thinks he’s weird and yet respect him, too. There is adventure, humor, and tenderness (healthy family love) in every episode. I hate it when the networks cancel shows after just a very few episodes! Decades ago, shows sometimes had years to build up viewership. Now, they barely get a chance to let the characters and storyline develop. They replaced it with The Slap, which has even fewer viewers, I believe. I won’t be checking that out. Sadly, another poor… Read more »
Totally agree, Carol!
At least air the remaining episodes on Hulu.
Probably the same brain power behind MSNBC. No talk of cancelling those bunch of inept commentators. Maybe Allegiance wasn’t colourful enough?
that is the best show on tv NBC should not cancel this show. NBC always cancels the best shows. DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW! I AGREE WITH THE ABOVE COMMENTS. IT IS NOT FAIR TO CANCEL A SHOW THAT ADULTS LIKE!!!!!!!
NBC and Fox seem to have the same programming executives running their networks. After seeing the bloodbath of shows cancelled on NBS and USA (owned by the same people), I am getting very frustrated with their programming people. Unless something hits big like American Idol and Empire (both of which I dislike totally), they are ready to pull the plug after only a few weeks. Also, they and their advertisers trust the Nielsen ratings way too much. With the advent of DVR, Net-Flicks, and torrents, people watch TV on their own schedule, not the networks. The networks need to start… Read more »
I think this was the only NBC show I was watching. I enjoyed the intellectual level of it and the intrigue it contained. To me it was similar to Covert Affairs, which I also love. I also loved Chuck, which was on NBC and cancelled too.
That figures. Every time we find something for those of us with more than 3 brain cells, they cancel it. Allegiance was similar to The Americans, but since we can’t seem to find that show any more…we were happy with the next best thing “Allegiance.”
The last episode was a real cliff hanger so thanks NBC for not asking our opinion till AFTER you killed it.
How can you not the find ‘The Americans’? It airs on FX on Wednesdays, as it always has to my knowledge. I just watched the latest two episodes yesterday.
i really enjoy the show but they should move it to another night that does not compete with ABC’s number one hits. Greys, scandal and how to get away with murder are very popular with younger generations.
