TV show description:
This sci-fi police drama takes place 35 years into the future, in the year 2048. It’s a world in which police officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.
Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban) is a cop who’s survived one of the most catastrophic attacks ever made against the police department. He wakes up after a 17-month coma. He can’t remember much — except that his partner was killed. He’s lost one of his legs and is now outfitted with a highly sophisticated synthetic appendage. He suffers from depression, mental atrophy, trauma-onset OCD, PTSD and the “psychological rejection of his synthetic body part.”
John returns to work at the encouragement of his longtime ally, Captain Sandra Maldonado (Lili Taylor). Every cop must now be paired with a robot and, despite his passionate aversion to androids, John is no exception.
He’s partnered with a battle-ready MX-43 model. He abruptly terminates this pairing after the robot discovers incriminating information about him. As a result, technician Rudy Lom (Mackenzie Crook) introduces John to Dorian (Michael Ealy), a discontinued android with unexpected emotional responses.
Although these responses were deemed flaws, it’s these “flaws” that John relates to Dorian most — John is part-machine and Dorian is part-human. John and Dorian’s understanding of each other not only complements them, it connects them.
As he adjusts to working with his new partner, John also must learn to get along with his new colleagues, like the sharp and insightful human intelligence analyst Detective Valerie Stahl (Minka Kelly) and Detective Richard Paul (Michael Irby), a distrustful man who doesn’t welcome John back with open arms.
Episode #13 – Straw Man
Kennex and Dorian revisit the past when a string of murders are similar to those committed by a serial killer who was put in jail by Kennex’s father. Dorian gets his first performance review after being reactivated.
First aired: March 3, 2014.
What do you think? Do you like the Almost Human TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for another season?
I loved the eries and, in spited of being from the future, it was easy to reelate to.
I felt the show was something original, new and exciting. I enjoyed the story line as much as the actors and action in the show. There is no way I believe it should have been cancelled so soon. The publicity to know about the show must have truly been minimal for I just discovered the show. Huge disappointmet to find it ran for only one season.
This show was very intertaining and left you at the edge of your seat . It should not have been canceled. Your network always cancels such great shows and i don’t why .
I’ve just discovered this show due to scheduling conflicts with watching it on tv…. Absolutely love the cast and what was delivered!!!! I’m bummed to be reading that it’s been canceled!!!!!!!! It would be so awesome if they could bring it back with the same cast!!!!!!!!!
Cancelling Almost Human, The Messengers, Star Trek (the one with Scott Bacula), shows that these so-called Network Executives don’t know their ass from a whole in the ground!! How about getting your Nielson Ratings from somewhere other than the Midwest and try some other season than Spring Break and Summer vacation!? I and a lot of my friends are looking for stories on other networks. It’s obvious to us that viewers have more patience and maturity than the so-called Network. Execs have. Why waste our time?
I have to say I agree with you one hundred percent.
So many good shows seem to be cancelled, while reality shows just keep coming. I really liked this show. It depicted very plausible future possibilities, lots of action and some humour. It seems pointless to wish it back … the people who make these decisions have their own agenda and what the public thinks has to translate into advertising and spin-off dollars … Nothing else counts.
I agree KOBOCLIO, they cancel the good ones and just keep putting on more reality shows. When I watch TV, I want fantasy, entertainment. Watching other people’s lives in all of these reality shows is not what I call entertainment. Yes, some of them aren’t bad but, the majority of them are boring. If I want to see what how others are living, I will just look up and down my street. Watching them on TV is not why I turn it on. Fantasy shows like Almost Human, are entertaining. Action, adventure ,drama that is what people are interested in.… Read more »
This was my favorite new show. Don’t know why it was cancelled. It had a interesting plot line with plenty of avenues to develop. Also, great acting. Why wasn’t it given a chance with a second season. Time for word of mouth to travel!
Star Trek was canceled ?? Always cancelling shows before they hhave a chance to take. Another big mistake is canning Almost human.
This could have been the next star trek, rebirth, break cultural and social boundaries to the next level of social growth.
I think it should have been renewed with the growing racial convict in the states this show made race an non issue, and also brought machines / artificial intelligences which is in our future to the front lines of society , after race, there is the conflict between man and machine. The ability of the detective to adjust to his machine limbs and then a machine partner is what the future is about.
They did’t give Almost Human a chance good show .
No it should not have been cancelled;it was usual and interesting.
Unless it’s a medical show, straight police drama( this is sort of sci fi) or some woman based show it seems everything else gets turfed. Karl Urban and Michael Ealy aren’t exactly nobody’s seems this show was given the short end of the stick. Too bad as it had potential, was hoping another network would pick it up.
This was the best show. Sci-Fi at its best. Too bad. O will def buy the DVD.
Almost Human was a wonderful, quirky, sci-fi show that should NOT have been cancelled. FOX seems to make a habit of dropping shows that my family and I like. So much so that it almost makes sense to avoid their programing until we find out if the network feels a particular show has sufficent legs to be continued beyond one season.
