The ratings for the American Crime TV show have been quite low but the anthology series has become a bit of a prestige project for ABC. It was renewed for a third season but there are only eight episodes this time. Will the numbers improve or fall lower? Will American Crime be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Stay tuned.
Season three American Crime on ABC stars Regina King, Felicity Huffman, Connor Jessup, Richard Cabral, and Benito Martinez. Recurring players include Sandra Oh, Cherry Jones, Tim DeKay, Janel Moloney, Dallas Roberts, Timothy Hutton, Lili Taylor, Ana Mulvoy-Ten, Mickaëlle X. Bizet, and Clayton Cardenas. In the story, a father named Luis Salazar (Martinez) travels illegally from Mexico into the United States. Searching for his missing son, he discovers that modern servitude is thriving in the farmlands. Living in poverty and required to pay for their own food and other essentials, what little money the workers make is paid back to their employers, and because they will forever be in debt, they can never leave. Undocumented workers aren’t the only people targeted by this system.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
4/30 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.

What do you think? Do you like American Crime TV show on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
5/11 update: ABC has cancelled American Crime so there won’t be a fourth season. Details here.
Please renew for season 4. It is an intelligent show with a great study of character.
Please renew! Great writing, timely subject matter. Something intelligent to watch!
Absolutely renew for season 4. It’s well thought out, well written and well acted. I’ve watched all three seasons and really want another season.
This is a great show. Please renew it. One of the few worth watching
Please renew.
Definitely renew. The show is so gripping and shows an interesting cross section of our society.
Renew definitely, thi is such a cross section of our society. The show is just so gripping.
I think it’s a travesty that ratings are so low. It should be an American Crime to NOT watch this show. The series is well-written, well-cast, superbly acted, and gives us a peek at the underbelly of America. Problem is, most people today live in a bubble of their own selfishness and don’t want to see the ills of society. They just want to be entertained and not think about tough issues that don’t impact them directly. Very sad. Great job, ABC, and please give us a Season 4. This series is just too good to fall by the wayside… Read more »
Renew the show, but make them based on True American Crime Story. The story of Aaron Henandez or Ray Curruth would be a good season 4 crime story if the can re-tell the story without being sued.
Ps. This season seem to skip all over the place… maybe the writers were burned out.
Absolutely renew the show! It is fantastic!! The actors and the writers!! Controversial current topics of today! One of the best shows on the air! I cannot believe it has low ratings! Let’s get rid of the Bachelor first!! PLEASE!!
This show is amazing. Enjoyed the first two seasons A LOT. Season 3 is going super strong IMHO, great acting and intense drama. Hope it gets a couple more seasons!
The ratings for this show are an abomination. It is time to hit the kill switch. ABC should be ashamed they let this continue for this long. It should have been cancelled after last season. Does ABC want this to become their lowest rated renewed show ever? Renewing this should get Channing Dungey FIRED!
Return to the original night. We were committed to sharing a “ratings custody” with NBC… A date which they selected.
Now (like Starz) the have become greedy, and want to switch our night for even greater advantage, regardless of our (audience) feelings on the matter. We have prior engagements (whatever else we’re doing, mostly other shows we are committed to).
If they are willing to risk destroying a show, and ratings due to being too lazy to bid on another Sunday show to allow us to keep our arrangement… then that is their prerogative (foolish though the choice be.)
It is disappointing that “American Crime” has low ratings! It truly is because everyone I know enjoys watching. Personally, I cannot stop tuning in; becoming so immersed into each character while anticipating the next episode. I believe that people assumed that after the first season that it was the end and was never returning. Perhaps there was not enough publicity for season two. (?) Richard Cabral and Connor Jessup are great actors! Their versatility is amazing! Although it is nice to see Benito Martinez on “How to Get Away With Murder,” his character in the second season of “American Crime”… Read more »
“American Crime” is one of those quality shows that develops a devoted fan base which admittedly grows agonizingly slowly. Those who followed the first two seasons were treated to a repertoire cast of highly skilled, A+ actors. Watching them morph from a season one character to a diametrically different season two character was very satisfying. The dramas depicted in both seasons were highly engrossing. I do hope they will be given a fair chance this third season to build their following.
This show isn’t growing anything. The ratings get WORSE every season and the show does also. No more nominations. Stop with the fake news. The show is done.
