TV show description:
This gritty anthology series revolves around race, class, and gender politics as it follows emotionally-charged crimes and the subsequent trials.
The first season begins with a home invasion in Modesto, California which results in the murder of war veteran Matt Skokie and a horrific assault on his wife Gwen.
Four suspects are brought into custody for the crimes. Though the suspects fit a profile, they and their situations are far more complicated than anyone would have initially believed.
Tony Gutiérrez (Johnny Ortiz) is an impressionable teen who got in way over his head even under the watchful eye of his dedicated and hard-working father, Alonzo Gutiérrez (Benito Martinez).
Hector Tontz (Richard Cabral) is a young man who’s lived life on the fringes of society and has made plenty of bad decisions while trying to survive.
The other two suspects are Carter Nix (Elvis Nolasco) and Aubry Taylor (Caitlin Gerard). They’re two incredibly lost souls whose addiction to drugs and to one another has become destructive and paralyzing. Carter’s sister Aliyah Shadeed (Regina King) is a devoutly religious woman who’s determined to help her brother.
Matt’s divorced and estranged parents, Russ Skokie (Timothy Hutton) and Barb Hanlon (Felicity Huffman), arrive in town to bury their son and are looking for some justice for his killing. They discover however that their son may not have been an innocent bystander in his own murder.
Gwen’s parents, Tom and Eve Carlin (W. Earl Brown and Penelope Ann Miller), are devastated by the attack on their daughter.
Told from the points of view of all those involved, this drama examines preconceptions on faith, family, gender, race, class and other aspects of our social experience.
In the second season, a male public high school student accuses members of a championship basketball team from a private school of sexually assaulting him at a school party. He alleges they photos of the incident and posted the images online.
In season three, a father named Luis Salazar (Benito Martinez) travels illegally from Mexico into the United States. Searching for his missing son, he discovers that modern servitude is thriving in the farmlands. Living in poverty and required to pay for their own food and other essentials, what little money the workers make is paid back to their employers, and because they will forever be in debt, they can never leave. Undocumented workers aren’t the only people targeted by this system.
Episode #29 — Season Three: Episode Eight
Kimara advises Dustin to inform the police about the crime that took place in the webcam house, which leads to an unforeseen outcome. Meanwhile, detectives open up a troubling investigation into Clair and Nicholas, who maintain their innocence and contend that Gabrielle is the guilty party. Jeanette must confront and consider the costs and sacrifices of social change.
First aired: April 30, 2017.
What do you think? Do you like the American Crime TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or, renewed for a fourth season?
Hello. I hope there are people out there who realize just how important this series is right now. I totally appreciate the gritty, honest and straight-forward style the issues are delivered on air through American Crime. People need to see that this is very real, in real life. I met Johnny Ortiz a while back and was so impressed with the passion that he has for the work he is doing as an actor. There are many very real messages in every episode that all viewers can learn from. This series NEEDS to be continued for a long time to… Read more »
Great show.I look forward to it each week.Great acting.I really hope the show continues
The acting is good, but I feel like each character is a stereotype, and no one except Tim Hutton and the mother of the victim’s wife has redeeming qualities. I think I would be happier if this ended, rather than drag it out.
You prefer the usual Hollywood formula where some people are good guys and others are bad, with one or two surprises to make it interesting. But American Crime chooses to be closer to real life where everybody has flaws and no one is truly a good guy. The people who don’t like the show are the sheeple who prefer fairy tales to reality. This is risky because most Americans are sheeple who prefer not to know. They would rather the show just end than continue challenging them to wake up. Just as they would rather Chelsea Manning be locked away… Read more »
Great show. Acting is excellent. Timothy Hutton in particular. Anxious to know how it ends. Please renew.
This show is so compelling because it is honest. As I understand it, this plot line is just for one season. The writing is excellent and the actors superb. I do hope the series will be renewed.
By the way, for my money, I think Matt beat Gwen and she is the one who shot him. We shall see…….
Love this show! Very intense and real. Please renew the show.
I was not surprised when the allegedly raped, but not really, victim finally gave her statement and could not remember anything. The writers are playing this for all it is worth. Certainly, Hector’s eyewitness testimony is worthless. He will say whatever the cops want him to say to get immunity. Truth be told, we still don’t know who killed the allegedly innocent, but not really, victim. It sorta doesn’t matter because Carter is going to keep on ******** up until even Aliyah/Doreen’s lawyer cannot save him from himself. Barb is, well, Barb and we all know at some point the… Read more »
American crime is one of the most complex and genuinely touching series we’ve got. The creator/writer and, at least for the first 2 episodes, director, of the piece has learned from the great Jean Renoir, whose maxim, “Everyone has their reasons,” is exactly the sensibility that guides this great series.
The show is great. At last a show with mixed ethnicities! A show that actually depicts the real world, warts and all. I enjoy it because the characters are well developed and the conflicts that they are going through are real. Kudos to the creator, producers, and actors, for giving us such a well thought out drama.
Carter was recognized while they were buying drugs in Episode 5 by a guy who said that Carter was the guy who robbed him. Where was this robbery?
Just before he got arrested, Carter went to that guy’s house and beat him up so he could get drugs for Aubrey.
Continue the show i.love it
Please please do not cancel American crime. I look forward to it all week long.
A raw, well-acted, well written, and well directed (deeply sensitive and gritty drama) about people and the affects of crime in their lives
Watched the first fifteen minutes and lost interest. Hadn’t found any reason to care about the characters and the story wasn’t interesting enough to continue.
15 Minutes? You really require instant gratification!
hopefully is a good show…..
