TV show description:
This gritty anthology series revolves around race, class, and gender politics as it follows emotionally-charged crimes and the subsequent trials.
The first season begins with a home invasion in Modesto, California which results in the murder of war veteran Matt Skokie and a horrific assault on his wife Gwen.
Four suspects are brought into custody for the crimes. Though the suspects fit a profile, they and their situations are far more complicated than anyone would have initially believed.
Tony Gutiérrez (Johnny Ortiz) is an impressionable teen who got in way over his head even under the watchful eye of his dedicated and hard-working father, Alonzo Gutiérrez (Benito Martinez).
Hector Tontz (Richard Cabral) is a young man who’s lived life on the fringes of society and has made plenty of bad decisions while trying to survive.
The other two suspects are Carter Nix (Elvis Nolasco) and Aubry Taylor (Caitlin Gerard). They’re two incredibly lost souls whose addiction to drugs and to one another has become destructive and paralyzing. Carter’s sister Aliyah Shadeed (Regina King) is a devoutly religious woman who’s determined to help her brother.
Matt’s divorced and estranged parents, Russ Skokie (Timothy Hutton) and Barb Hanlon (Felicity Huffman), arrive in town to bury their son and are looking for some justice for his killing. They discover however that their son may not have been an innocent bystander in his own murder.
Gwen’s parents, Tom and Eve Carlin (W. Earl Brown and Penelope Ann Miller), are devastated by the attack on their daughter.
Told from the points of view of all those involved, this drama examines preconceptions on faith, family, gender, race, class and other aspects of our social experience.
In the second season, a male public high school student accuses members of a championship basketball team from a private school of sexually assaulting him at a school party. He alleges they photos of the incident and posted the images online.
In season three, a father named Luis Salazar (Benito Martinez) travels illegally from Mexico into the United States. Searching for his missing son, he discovers that modern servitude is thriving in the farmlands. Living in poverty and required to pay for their own food and other essentials, what little money the workers make is paid back to their employers, and because they will forever be in debt, they can never leave. Undocumented workers aren’t the only people targeted by this system.
Episode #29 — Season Three: Episode Eight
Kimara advises Dustin to inform the police about the crime that took place in the webcam house, which leads to an unforeseen outcome. Meanwhile, detectives open up a troubling investigation into Clair and Nicholas, who maintain their innocence and contend that Gabrielle is the guilty party. Jeanette must confront and consider the costs and sacrifices of social change.
First aired: April 30, 2017.
What do you think? Do you like the American Crime TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or, renewed for a fourth season?
Not if we are to watch every show and not havhave a clue about the ending . As far as I am concerned it was a waste of my time.
When Carter found out that Aubrey confessed to the killing he went went over to his sister and whispered something to her that made her face drop. His was just taking to his lawyer who said basically that in the end your sins come back to bite you in the ass. What if he really did kill Matt and this is what he whispered to his sister. Aubrey knew the details of the killing because she was there. This might also explain why Carters sister hugged Gwenns mom at the end and was crying.
LOVE THIS SHOW PLEASE RENEW THIS….
LOVED, LOVED the show.
I just wish Matt Stokely’s father would’ve showed those photos of Matt on military duty torturing the enemy to the mom. I would’ve love to see what she would’ve done then. I think she’s the scariest one of all.
Barb is imminently predictable. She would insist the picture proved nothing.
Yes, you have a point there! But on the other hand, I think she clearly does know the demons in her family members and that deep down inside, Matt had the potential. I think that may be why she so damn defensive when it comes to him. She will keep those demons buried as much as she can. I guess it doesn’t matter now, ex-hubby is dead. The only one left that knows any truth about that family besides her, is Mark.
Enjoyed it very much….but wish they had shown what really happened!@
Well, obviously you have to keep watching it to find out what really happened. That’s what I love about it, the twists and turns that keep the viewer on the edge and watching.
My cable carrier CUT OFF! the Mexican’s exuberant adjective at the end of the finale!!!Aaaargh!…the suspense is cruel and ignorant—How did the Mexican answer the question? He said, “I feel…?????”He was smiling… The network CUT OFF the last sentence of the last scene of the last episode! Whoever is responsible for blunder needs to be taught how to flip burgers…
I need the word, please!
Aubry Taylor confessd that she had killed Matt. She confessed of the killing in about 3 previous episodes.
Thanks Mike, but Just because Aubrey confessed doesn’t mean she did it. When Carter found out, he asked her why she confessed. Her response was that she has problems, implying she thought she had a better chance of getting off because of her mental health issues than Carter. From the few additional comments regarding this, I assume that who actually killed Matt was not revealed and we are left to draw our own conclusions. Since I missed some parts of some of the episodes, I wasn’t sure.
Those who refuse to believe Aubrey’s confession conveniently ignore, even to the point of inventing unproven rationales to justify ignoring, the rather compelling reality that she knew too many details which only the killer could know. Certainly, in the real world, the detectives would believe her confession and a jury would almost certainly convict her. The simple truth is that those viewers who refuse to believe her confession do not want to believe her confession. Dare we examine why that is so?
Incredible acting! Please renew!
This show carries a subtle but strong message against interracial romances. I have many black friends, Latino friends, Asian and white friends who are in cross-cultural marriages or dating relationships and most have very happy relationships with strong stable families, and are employed in productive, prosperous careers. Yet as the “ground-breaking” TV show to deal with racial issues, this show’s only interracial couple are both DRUG ADDICTS who end up dying violent deaths by the time Season 1 is complete. That sends a powerful message when television’s rare interracial couple turns out to be such violent, drug-addicted slackers. How about… Read more »
You forget that the other mixed couple is Mark and his Asian fiancé’ that seems to be the only person who has their head on straight from that little circle of associates. With them in mind, it creates a polarization to what your point is about the drug addicts. No one is good in this series. Every one has their issues, just like in real life.
No surprise that the show’s creator John Ridley is a practicing Muslim, who tries to sugar-coat the racist Nation of Islam cult that even mainstream Muslims reject as heretical. It is led by Jew-bashing firebrand Louis Farrakhan. Yet Ridley uses the show to try to portray them as some kind of peaceful, forgiving group when they are in fact a hate group. Loo for Season 2 to step up the pace and intensity of pro-Islam propaganda.
This is quite an interesting perspective and I appreciate your sharing it openly. Yes, I do agree to a certain point that NOI can easily be regarded as just another hate/racist group established in this country. And Farrakhan has paid for his bad, bad karma for his involvement. However, in keeping with the series and its messages, John Ridley is showing the lot of many types we love to hate: drug addicts, racist white people, illegal immigrants, interracial couples, gang banger, even military hero with bad entitlement believes. I think it’s a very good move to add the NOI element… Read more »
I would like to know who killed Matt Stokie. Did I miss something? I put this show in my top 10 to watch.
Who killed Matt Stokie? Perhaps he did himself!
Great Show and really needs to continue!
Who killed Matt Stokie
Yes, Tamela, I too want to know who killed Matt Stokie! I had mixed feelings in deciding if I was a fan of the show or not, but ended up watching most of most episodes. In the end, I decided that I am a fan. At the end of the season finale, I thought I must have missed the part where that was revealed. So which s it- we are left to draw our own conclusions or I just didn’t catch that part?
Please renew. Incredible acting and realistic story line.
I love the show. Please don’t cancel it.
