TV show description:
This gritty anthology series revolves around race, class, and gender politics as it follows emotionally-charged crimes and the subsequent trials.
The first season begins with a home invasion in Modesto, California which results in the murder of war veteran Matt Skokie and a horrific assault on his wife Gwen.
Four suspects are brought into custody for the crimes. Though the suspects fit a profile, they and their situations are far more complicated than anyone would have initially believed.
Tony Gutiérrez (Johnny Ortiz) is an impressionable teen who got in way over his head even under the watchful eye of his dedicated and hard-working father, Alonzo Gutiérrez (Benito Martinez).
Hector Tontz (Richard Cabral) is a young man who’s lived life on the fringes of society and has made plenty of bad decisions while trying to survive.
The other two suspects are Carter Nix (Elvis Nolasco) and Aubry Taylor (Caitlin Gerard). They’re two incredibly lost souls whose addiction to drugs and to one another has become destructive and paralyzing. Carter’s sister Aliyah Shadeed (Regina King) is a devoutly religious woman who’s determined to help her brother.
Matt’s divorced and estranged parents, Russ Skokie (Timothy Hutton) and Barb Hanlon (Felicity Huffman), arrive in town to bury their son and are looking for some justice for his killing. They discover however that their son may not have been an innocent bystander in his own murder.
Gwen’s parents, Tom and Eve Carlin (W. Earl Brown and Penelope Ann Miller), are devastated by the attack on their daughter.
Told from the points of view of all those involved, this drama examines preconceptions on faith, family, gender, race, class and other aspects of our social experience.
In the second season, a male public high school student accuses members of a championship basketball team from a private school of sexually assaulting him at a school party. He alleges they photos of the incident and posted the images online.
In season three, a father named Luis Salazar (Benito Martinez) travels illegally from Mexico into the United States. Searching for his missing son, he discovers that modern servitude is thriving in the farmlands. Living in poverty and required to pay for their own food and other essentials, what little money the workers make is paid back to their employers, and because they will forever be in debt, they can never leave. Undocumented workers aren’t the only people targeted by this system.
Episode #29 — Season Three: Episode Eight
Kimara advises Dustin to inform the police about the crime that took place in the webcam house, which leads to an unforeseen outcome. Meanwhile, detectives open up a troubling investigation into Clair and Nicholas, who maintain their innocence and contend that Gabrielle is the guilty party. Jeanette must confront and consider the costs and sacrifices of social change.
First aired: April 30, 2017.
What do you think? Do you like the American Crime TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or, renewed for a fourth season?
I really like American Crime. I have watched it since the beginning. Interesting subjects, great actors. Please don’t cancel.
great show.. good actors interesting current topics.. would want to see
another season!
It is not often that a program such as American Crime comes along. Unlike the unrealistic, mindless reality shows that populate the networks, this is one series that brings true reality to the TV screen. What a shame this quality show gets the axe, when the crap that is on the tube continues to be renewed. Is it any wonder people are turning to streaming to find shows worth watching? Please reconsider – renew American Crime.
Cancel? Nooo! Why would the network want to possibly do that?!?? This thought provoking drama brings attention to real life problems and sparks productive, meaningful conversations. Exposure of such injustices spreads awareness and helps clarify misconceptions about our world. Grave network mistake to cancel…
I LOVE everything about this series!! The extremely talented and diverse cast, the brilliant writing, the compelling stories and portrayal! SO enthralling, educational and addicting. PLEASE renew, or find a new outlet to continue quality television!!
American Crime is a great show and nails it as it sheds light to issues in a raw/real way. The actors/actresses did a wonderful job portraying different roles. Thank you for pulling me in and affecting my emotions. If ABC won’t renew; other networks reconsider. I am still disappointed that Southland was cancelled!!!
Yes! Southland I’m still mourning too!
Don’t cancel! Last year was great. This year’s series a little slow, but keep it going! Love Felicity, Timothy and Lilly Taylor.
Please RENEW!!! Powerful show, unbelievable ensemble….
Please renew show. The topics are so important it provokes great discussion and action about subjects that need to be understood so that laws are made to stop these horrible crimes. These topics are often ignored because we refuse to see, report and do something to stop them. The acting, writing & directing is also some of the best anywhere on tv. If ABC needs room in its schedule to keep it, get rid of “The Bachelor/Bachelorette” crap. That is the worst “scripted” UNREAL reality on tv today! We need more like American Crime so we can learn, understand and… Read more »
I am deeply saddened that this magnificent show has been canceled. I believe too many millennials are made to feel too uncomfortable with being shown a true state of things in our country. Also, they want action, action, action instead of substance. It’s a shame. For myself, I learned the truth about migrant workers and wept over it. The ensemble acting was beautiful to watch.
Please renew this show. It is a combination of excellent writing and acting. The cast is superb. I am rather mesmerized by the acting of Richard Cabral. I like the idea of the same actors returning to different roles. They are all amazing.
Extremely well acted. Plots track far too many American urban zones to make too many viewers comfortable. Interface of competing/conflicting social issues evokes extensive after-show discussion. Of course the “spend now” set will reject it as the story lines require understanding of responsibility and accountability. Keep it as long as the actors can meet their spots.
Renewed I love it.
Do not cancel, this is such a good program and well written with excellant actors.
I wish there were more shows like this.
Courageous! Brilliant acting and directing. We just binged on the first two seasons and can’t stop talking about it. The depth and breadth is a gift to thoughtful viewers.
