TV show description:
This gritty anthology series revolves around race, class, and gender politics as it follows emotionally-charged crimes and the subsequent trials.
The first season begins with a home invasion in Modesto, California which results in the murder of war veteran Matt Skokie and a horrific assault on his wife Gwen.
Four suspects are brought into custody for the crimes. Though the suspects fit a profile, they and their situations are far more complicated than anyone would have initially believed.
Tony Gutiérrez (Johnny Ortiz) is an impressionable teen who got in way over his head even under the watchful eye of his dedicated and hard-working father, Alonzo Gutiérrez (Benito Martinez).
Hector Tontz (Richard Cabral) is a young man who’s lived life on the fringes of society and has made plenty of bad decisions while trying to survive.
The other two suspects are Carter Nix (Elvis Nolasco) and Aubry Taylor (Caitlin Gerard). They’re two incredibly lost souls whose addiction to drugs and to one another has become destructive and paralyzing. Carter’s sister Aliyah Shadeed (Regina King) is a devoutly religious woman who’s determined to help her brother.
Matt’s divorced and estranged parents, Russ Skokie (Timothy Hutton) and Barb Hanlon (Felicity Huffman), arrive in town to bury their son and are looking for some justice for his killing. They discover however that their son may not have been an innocent bystander in his own murder.
Gwen’s parents, Tom and Eve Carlin (W. Earl Brown and Penelope Ann Miller), are devastated by the attack on their daughter.
Told from the points of view of all those involved, this drama examines preconceptions on faith, family, gender, race, class and other aspects of our social experience.
In the second season, a male public high school student accuses members of a championship basketball team from a private school of sexually assaulting him at a school party. He alleges they photos of the incident and posted the images online.
In season three, a father named Luis Salazar (Benito Martinez) travels illegally from Mexico into the United States. Searching for his missing son, he discovers that modern servitude is thriving in the farmlands. Living in poverty and required to pay for their own food and other essentials, what little money the workers make is paid back to their employers, and because they will forever be in debt, they can never leave. Undocumented workers aren’t the only people targeted by this system.
Episode #29 — Season Three: Episode Eight
Kimara advises Dustin to inform the police about the crime that took place in the webcam house, which leads to an unforeseen outcome. Meanwhile, detectives open up a troubling investigation into Clair and Nicholas, who maintain their innocence and contend that Gabrielle is the guilty party. Jeanette must confront and consider the costs and sacrifices of social change.
First aired: April 30, 2017.
What do you think? Do you like the American Crime TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or, renewed for a fourth season?
I loved this show and can’t believe it was cancelled?
I definitely think it should have continued for a 4th season! I loved this show! One of my faves!!
I loved this show. Did I agree with all of the things that happened? No. That is what made it great. Viewers were able to see things not just in black and white. It was raw and real. It actually made people stop and think, reflect. Have a different perspective. One can hope. Anyway. I’ll miss it.
I don’t this show should be canceled. From year to year you see the original actors playing different parts based on that year’s storyline. It give the actors a cjsnce to showcase their talents in different settings.
Should NOT have been cancelled. Was brilliantly written and acted!
This series was excellent. All three season presentations were well written, and, of course, the cast was beautiful. I was hoping it would carry on for a few more seasons. Besides just being a well done show, it made me ‘think’ about and truly ‘look at’ my own feelings about so many issues that I avoid.
Like it’s a real life story, telling about what really happens in our country. I honestly think they should at least give this show another try for the sake of it’s fans, please!
I just watched the Season Finale of this quality show and I had an overwhelming feeling of what a loss. I am no fan of the decision makers who feel no responsibility to find ways to promote really excellent presentations such as American Crime. I watched all three seasons and eagerly awaited each episode. Surely, the network could have found some means to save the program. I fear it will be some time before another show of such quality in scripting and video graphing will surface.
This is the best show on TV about race, class and all of the different slices of life in America… I can not believe they are canceling this show!!! It was the best thought provoking, mind bending show out there that was made for adults… You could actually watch this show and then have conversations with people who were “different” from you about it. It’s almost like it was designed to help Americans from all slices actually “talk” to each other. THIS IS REALLY STUPID TO CANCEL THIS INTELLIGENT, THOUGHT PROVOKING, TIMELY, RELEVANT SHOW!!!! WHO IS MAKING THESE DECISIONS??? WHY… Read more »
One of the best, most thought provoking shows on! Should NOT have been cancelled.
ABC has shown its short-sightedness again. This was he finest drama on network TV since HOMOCIDE. I hope NETFLIX, AMAZON, or HULU will pick it up. What is the likelihood of that do you think?
I can’t agree more. Great show that covered so many topics we discuss daily these days.
I really like this show. I do hope they will rescue it.
Maybe Netflix or Amazon can rescue this show from cancellation purgatory.
I have not seen the show!
For me, American Crime is an amazingly written, smart, debate starting show with a cast whom, with each storyline, show me the meaning of being actors… they are excellent! I love that a storyline has an end, and in the next series, the actors morph into their new character. American Crime is compelling. If you’re cancelling due to low ratings, then you need to market it correctly. Period.
Please leave this thought provoking, incredibly acted show on the air.
