It’s pretty rare that a TV show that’s launched very late in the season becomes a success in the ratings. Could American Odyssey on NBC be an exception? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season instead?
On the American Odyssey TV show, an international cover-up explodes when the lives of a female Special Forces soldier, a disillusioned corporate lawyer, and a political activist from a privileged family unexpectedly collide. The cast includes Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli, Jake Robinson, Jim True-Frost, Sadie Sink, Omar Ghazaoui, Nate Mooney, Elena Kampouris, Daniella Pineda, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Treat Williams.
The series debuted on April 4th to a 1.14 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.37 million total viewers. That was a very poor premiere but the ratings got much worse in week two, dropping more than 24%, to a 0.81 rating in the demo and 4.05 million.
The ratings for American Odyssey then plunged again in week three, falling to a 0.52 rating with 3.11 million. Last week’s episode held pretty steady in the demo but dropped another 10% in viewership.
Unless the numbers take a stunning change of course quickly, there’s little question that NBC will cancel this TV show. The ratings are just too terrible to justify a second season.
At this point, the real question is if the network will pull American Odyssey from the schedule before all of the remaining eight episodes have aired. They could go either way.
NBC cancelled and pulled low-rated Allegiance from the Thursday night schedule after five episodes but released the eight unaired installments online. Conversely, they let the remaining episodes of The Slap mini-series air. We’ll have to wait and see what they do.
But, what do you think? Do you like the American Odyssey TV show? Why is it performing so poorly? If you ran the network, would you cancel or renew this series for a second season?
really like the show please continue it
RENEW!!!! IT’S A GREAT SHOW!
Renew
I found this show by mistake and after watching it, I watched the first five episodes one after the other. Now I am waiting every week for the next one. I hope this show gets renewed.
This show is awesome and should definitely have a second season. Perhaps NBC needs to have AO come on before or after one of the top rated shows on the network. The story line is great and believable. Poor ratings are due to marketing (or lack of marketing for the show). Great product in need of better exposure.
Once again the networks produce a good, creative drama series and the. American public doesn’t watch it. I guess the reality shows and the brainless sitcoms are just too enticing as entertainment. That’s why I will continue to watch and support public television. Thanks for trying. I’ve enjoyed the writing in this drama and the characters and actors.
I hope we get to see it to the finish.
I love American odyssey please keep it.
I like this show, BUT I also loved FOREVER. See what that got me. PLEASE renew.
Please renew..it is a great show.. edge of seat entire time
cancel it. its dragging on toooooo LLLOoooooNNNNGGGGG. 6 hours of show crammed into 13 episodes, like is happening a lot n tv lately. way too much DRAMA>
I said the same thing about the show “24” but that never got canceled so if you want a show that drags far to long THAT is a show needed to be canceled not American Odyssey! You don’t know what dragging on means.
after Blacklist, my favorite show is American Odessey.. I seem to like the shows you cancel
Great show. One of the best that NBC has put on air in a long time.
Renew this riveting show!
Please continue to broadcast really like the show
It’s sad that NBC can’t get ratings for any shows . But eventually they’re going to have to take a chance and leave some on the air. Of their last about 20 tries this is probably the best show. If it was on CBS it would probably be getting great ratings. Are a voice in the blacklist the only two shows that actually get ratings for NBC?
If you decide to cancel this show would you please have the decency to resolve all story lines. I hate when time is invested and the powers that be decide to pull unaired episodes and we as an audience are left with unanswered endings. This could be why people are hesitant to watch a drama because this is what the networks do without any thought to the people they leave hanging.
