There won’t be a second season of American Odyssey. To little surprise, NBC has cancelled the dramatic TV series after 13 episodes.
On the American Odyssey TV show, an international cover-up explodes when the lives of a female Special Forces soldier, a disillusioned corporate lawyer, and a political activist from a privileged family unexpectedly collide. The cast includes Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli, Jake Robinson, Jim True-Frost, Sadie Sink, Omar Ghazaoui, Nate Mooney, Elena Kampouris, Daniella Pineda, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Treat Williams.
The series had a lackluster debut and the ratings got much worse as the weeks progressed. The 13 installments ended up averaging a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with fewer than three million viewers. The finale aired this past Sunday.
Series creator Adam Armus tweeted, “Thanks to the devoted fans of #AmericanOdyssey. I loved the tweets, the artwork and the emotional support. #odellelives in our [heart]️ always!” and “#AmericanOdyssey is not renewed for next season. The stories live on in here [head] and in here [heart]️! [Bravo] to the fantastic cast, crew and the fans!”
Of the cancellation, executive producer Peter Horton tweeted, “As you all know we have bn canceled. Had we been on cable wld have bn a hit Thx to all of u for bing our audience #thebest #AmericanOdyssey” and then, “#AmericanOdyssey Heartbreaking. But you all have been the best. xo”
Actor Treat Williams wrote, “American Odyssey has been a great experience. Thank you Peter, Adam, Kay,and a lovely cast for a great season. Thank you NBC for the gig.”
What do you think? Did you like the American Odyssey TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled it or renewed the series for a second season?
So very disappointing to hear that Odyssey series will not continue. WHY..
HI, seems as though if a New TV show doesn’t have the words “coitus” in every sentence, it will be cancelled very soon.
Shows that are intellectual or simply family entertaining are more likely to be cancelled.
That’s too bad!
the low viewership reason nbc gave for canceling is not believable. the plot was one of the most intellectually challenging and exciting plots on tv. i don’t want to speculate on the actual reasons but there is definitely something nbc isn’t sharing.
gush……d best drama I ever watched. y d cancel NBC ? I’ve longed for d season 2 just to hear dis sad news. plsssss another T.V should take charge.
I have to admit that the first time I watched American Odyssey was “ON DEMAND” When I watched the first episode I was hooked I didn’t do anything all week-end but watch every episode. Then I looked to find out when the new season would start. Then I found out that NBC had cancelled the show. I still keep looking to see if some other network or cable channel picked it up. The story is fascinating . Please someone find a venue for this wonderful story that is so timely.
I absolutely loved this show. I couldn’t wait from week to week to see the next episode. Very bad idea to cancel the show.
it’s unfair, why would the NBC cancelled America Odyssey.
I’ve been wondering when the 2nd season would start! Now I see it has been cancelled. Gone are the days when networks gave a series a chance to succeed. There have been huge successes in the past that had a slow building of audience but did end up being almost classics..
The cancellation of “American Odyssey” is such a disappointment. I loved this show & was excited to see more of it: intelligent script, good acting, good content. I WISH a cable channel would pick up to ball.
Seriously- finally an intelligent drama and they can it!!!!
How is it that they cancel and intelligent, exciting show like American Odyssey but Two Broke Girls can be considered a success and stays on?
Absolutely agree with John. So much cr*p on tv. Something intelligent with great story lines gets cancelled. Give it a second season to gather more fans.
I loved American Odyssey as well as several others that aired on NBC. I am very skeptical to get involved in watching any new shows on NBC because they do not leave them on long enough. State of Affairs and Believe were also excellent. Over time there have been several. I think that is why the shows have low ratings because there are so many people skeptical of getting involved in NBC programming and then having them cancelled.
Why does a channel cancel a show before it’s even kicked off, you need the second series to decide if it’s good or not. The first series was good, can’t believe you’ve cancelled it. Come on other channels….take on this show and keep it going.
How could NBC cancel season 2 of American Odyssey
Brilliant tv, great storyline, kept me gripped. Bad decision to cancel show
Are they crazy. Best show I have seen for a long time. Very upsetting.
