Last night, NBC aired the season finale of American Odyssey. Though the show’s ratings have been very poor, there’s apparently still some hope that the drama will survive to see a second season.
Last night, executive producer Peter Horton wrote, “Seeing your comments all season, but especially tonight, best fans ever. Will let you know about season two tomorrow. xo #AmericanOdyssey”
Unfortunately for fans of American Odyssey, the ratings have not been good. The series debuted to low ratings — a 1.14 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.372 million viewers — and they’ve gotten much worse since then. Last week’s installment hit a new low with a 0.4 in the demo and 2.2 million.
6/29 update: Series co-creator Adam Armus has tweeted, “No news today dear #AmericanOdyssey fans. See you here tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel.”
6/30 update: NBC has cancelled the series.
What do you think? Have you stuck with the series? Are you hoping that it will be renewed for a second season?
NBC u surely can’t do that. This was a great show all the way from Kenya I enjoyed it. come on just renew it pleaseeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
seriously?! no second season!! American Odyssey was one of the best shows on television with out a doubt: the acting and storylines are unquestionably exceptional. NBC must reconsider. Everyone that I’ve recommended the show to has been blown away. The show will most definitely catch on if season #2 arrives.
Very disappionted it’s cacelled. I have been watching it in the uk and have been clued to it. Anna Freil, the english actress plays a very convincing american soldier. The plot line is brilliant and not beyond the realms of fact. I hope the network reconciders their dicesion.
I loved this show! I am hoping that it will be given another season. The storyline and acting is great.
This is so tragic! This show held our attention as much as the first season of Homeland. How can they continue with some of the poorly written comedy shows and cancel a wonderfully written drama? Maybe the problem is their marketing of it or where they placed it. Hopefully, someone like HBO or Showtime will pick it up.
This show was so much better than the everyday show, looked forward to it every week, it needs to go on..!!!!!!!
I really looked forward to this show every Sunday. Great drama! Loved the different cultures, especially the Arabic language spoken. With all the reality shows out there, this was a breath of fresh air. Very disappointed in the cancellation!
I totally agree! NBC also canceled A.D. The Bible, Smash….why bother to watch only to be let down?
I think I will wait to watch any future NBC short series until after the series ends. I will choose not to watch any that leaves everything hanging. I actually thought it was a mini-series so I expected the season finale to be the end. The storyline could have been one storyline of high quality every season. So disappointed in NBC.
I just watched the last episode on my DVR. I am sorry to see this one cancelled. Somehow, if not by legal action, which I think would be a stretch, then by viewer appeal to sponsors and possibly by appropriate boycotts.. viewers need to gain some concessions. Admittedly, networks need to have viewers and antagonizing them by sudden cancellations is viewer unfriendly. One concession would be that NO show which has been viewed for a number of episodes, will be terminated before the story line is concluded. If the cancellation has to be accomplished to free up time slots,, then… Read more »
Mr. Thorman…..I couldn’t have said it better!! That’s what we disliked most…..that the story lines had not been completed. Just abruptly ended!!!!
My husband and I love American Odessy series! I am a New York native, of Colombian parents, I have lived in the USA, Colombia and in Syria. Being exposed to many cultures we really enjoy a TV series that shows the interaction of world cultures and socities…this show in following seasons can be a catalyst. Blessings! Maria
One of the best shows on the air!! Crazy decision to cancel.
its not commendable to cancel the movie by rating the%,soon it wil be on better than before.let it continue.
I’m very disappointed that American Odyssey I has been canceled. It is a good show. You have to have a second season.
With the %$&# that comprises most of tv, I am AMAZED to hear that American Odyssey had such a small audience. They ended the show with story lines hanging….almost like it was a very last minute decision. Could it be the government didn’t like the storyline? Really a shame. It was a good show and personally, I am not buying the “ratings” excuse.
I agree with you, I don’t by the rating thing either!
I agree with you, MaryAnne Bush………..been thinking along the government thing a lot…….wouldn’t doubt it. This show is so much better than all these reality shows and these comedy shows that are just plain stupid. I am so hoping that somehow a season 2 will show up…..somewhere!!
AGREED – make absolutely no sense this show would be cancelled; above all the rest in quality. Must be a government thing for sure. Look at Person of Interest, while good nothing compared to AO. And it’s STILL limping along after what how many YEARS. Something definitely rotten going on …….
Nooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please don’t!
