Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show, Anderson, won’t be back for a third season. According to the NY Times, the Warner Bros syndicated program is being cancelled due to low ratings. Anderson Live will go off the air in late summer.
A studio executive that asked not to be named noted that the entire daytime talk show market is struggling to build an audience these days. The first season of Anderson Live attracted luke-warm numbers so numerous changes were made for season two — same-day tapings, a new studio, etc. — but it wasn’t enough.
Some of the stations that carry Cooper’s show have apparently been putting out feelers about replacing the show for the 2013-14 season.
The Warner Brothers syndication unit issued this statement about the cancellation:
“We are extremely proud of Anderson and the show that he and the entire production team have produced. While we made significant changes to the format, set and produced it live in its second season, the series will not be coming back for a third season in a marketplace that has become increasingly difficult to break through. We will continue to deliver top-quality shows throughout next summer.”
Cooper added:
“I am very proud of the work that our terrific staff has put into launching and sustaining our show for two seasons. I am also grateful to Telepictures for giving me the opportunity, and indebted to viewers, who have responded so positively. I look forward to doing more great shows this season, and though I’m sorry we won’t be continuing, I have truly enjoyed it.”
What do you think? Do you like the Anderson Live TV series? Will you miss it? Why do you think that it didn’t succeed?
very disappointed but not surprised…….too intelligent & way to smart for mainstream USA!! a real loss for daytime t.v.!
I CANNOT believe that a show this smart and entertaining is being cancelled! Why?? I am a night shift person, but I stay up until 9 a.m. just to watch Anderson. He is the most intelligent journalist on television, but at the same time, he is so human and approachable. He broadcasts interesting topics, and is very respectful to his guests. Whomever made this decision, has made a terrible mistake. I strongly object to losing Anderson Cooper’s presence on daytime TV.
I am extremely disappointed that Anderson is being canceled. He is a professional and so real. Isn’t that what daytime talk shows strive for. The show is informative, comical, just everything I want in a talk show format. It is far superior then the view, chew, certainly Morrie who continues to be on and WHY FOR GODSAKE, IT IS AWFUL.
Please reconsider!!!!
Just another example where a network doesn’t give shows time to grow and find an audience. If Ellen were premiering in today’s market, her show would probably be cancelled. And, Trish, I understand what you’re saying, but Ellen has a big following and last I knew she had come out of the closet. If I were Anderson, though, I’d want to move on to something else rather than just continuing to work on a show that has already been cancelled.
Why? So upset that they are canceling ! Please give him a third season. I have never replied to anything like this but I’m so upset, this is totally wrong. And I just don’t get it!!
So sorry to see his show cancelled. I am a big fan of Anderson Cooper. I feel you see a different side of him on this program, then his 360 CNN program. I love the new format too. Really disappointed that his show is being cancelled.
I will miss this show. The only thing I won’t miss is the studio switch from that beautiful view to that room.
Can’t believe they’re canceling his show. Gonna go ahead and agree with Carol. Kelly & Michael has long lost its charm (I was done when Regis left), and I can’t believe THEY’RE still airing. Anderson Live touched on so many topics that NEED to be focused on (the girl being made fun of for having cerebral palsy), and there were many moments where I felt like I connected with Anderson. He’s serious, funny when he needs to be, and he made a great pair with whoever the day’s co-host was. Completely saddening knowing a smart show like this will be… Read more »
NO !!! Really ? Come on this is a great show I watch it every day… Love it !!!!! Ricki Lake’s show is a snore, Katie’s is a hit or miss so is Jeff Probst, but Anderson’s show is aleays a hit. He is a great interviewer and his show is always interesting. Please keep this show on, please ,please, please !!!! Anderson you rock !!! The network is making a big big mistake !!!
I am so disappointed that my favorite TV personality, Anderson Cooper, will be off the air on his talk show. He show was the intelligent difference in a daytime arena of other silly daytime shows. I guess America is not yet ready for something like it. The desperate change in the format from the beautiful Columbus Drive studio to an ordinary-looking, claustrophobic room turned off a lot of viewers. The co-hosts were not appealing. Anderson was best in his investigative portions and interview sections. The silly game shows did not fit his personality. We love you, Anderson and will be… Read more »
Yes, I am very upset that Anderson’s show is being cancelled. I can’t believe it! I watch it every day along with my mom who is 92 and we really enjoy the interesting guests and topics he chooses. We will really miss him. The other talk shows are such a waste of time. Boring……
Anderson, you are the best (and so is your mom)!!
Love, Susan
I love Anderson Cooper and like many women, I was dissapointed when he “came out”, I thought I would marry him one day. LOL Im not certain, but feel that may have had some bearing on his show. There are still a lot of people in our society who are Not accepting of someones sexuality if they feel it is “not the norm.” Who watches daytime TV? Lots of stay at home mommies. Anderson is professional, always on target with his comments and is easy on the eyes. I say “go out there Anderson and bring us fans a new… Read more »
Anderson is so much better than Kelly n Michael. The stunts they do on the shelf for extremely silly. I can’t believe it is still on the air. Anderson live shows are interesting informative, interesting and on the cutting edge. it would be totally wrong for then to cancel the show please please please give him a third season
Keep it for 3rd year
