TV show description:
This offbeat crime procedural is based on the Swedish book series by Leif G. W. Persson. The series follows Detective Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson). He’s an unhealthy, offensive, irascible (also brilliant) detective who is brought back from exile to run the Portland Police Bureau’s Special Crimes Unit (SCU).
Tasked with navigating the city’s most sensitive and serious cases, Backstrom must solve each crime as he tries, and fails, to change his own self-destructive behavior.
Backstrom’s second in command is Detective Nicole Gravely (Genevieve Angelson). Detective John Almond (Dennis Haysbert) is a kind and devoutly religious man who’s been married for 30 years and serves as a pastor on weekends.
Sergent Peter Niedermayer (Kristoffer Polaha) is the unit’s Forensics Liaison and Officer Frank Moto (Page Kennedy) is one of the members of the Special Crimes Unit. Foreign-born civilian Nadia Paquet (Beatrice Rosen) supports the detectives.
Meanwhile, Gregory Valentine (Thomas Dekker) is Backstrom’s decorator and “underworld connection”.
Episode #13 — Rock Bottom
When a Native American is found dead under a bridge on the Wabacooche Indian reservation, Amy’s (guest Sarah Chalke) new boyfriend and Indian Reserve Police Captain, Jesse Rocha (guest Adam Beach), wants in on the case. Backstrom then learns that Indian meth-king Norwest (guest Gregory Cruz), of Cooch County, is a suspect in the case, and he is convinced his father, Cooch County Sheriff Blue Backstrom (guest Robert Forster), knows about Norwest’s drug dealings, leaving Backstrom to make a difficult decision. Meanwhile, in order to keep his job with the S.C.U., Backstrom must impress Dr. Deb (guest Rizwan Manji).
First aired: April 30, 2015.
What do you think? Do you like the Backstrom TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
love the show
I love Backstrom. He isn’t handsome, rich, or perfect like so many of the characters on TV are. There are very few programs on TV that are worth watching. This is one of the few shows that I look forward to.
Please give it a chance to gain a bigger audience. ,I tell friends & family how great it is, and they love it too! PLEASE!!!
I really enjoy this show, all the characters are great, Rainn Wilson plays the perfect curmudgeon. I hope to heck it isn’t cancelled already, give it a chance to get going for cripes sakes.
please bring the show back…..love the show…..
still want more episodes…..love the entire cast…….hopefully there is a time slot change, as i can not find it in tonight’s tv listing…….
I love this show! it’s off beat and quirky- I would love to see how this show developes – keep it going, I have so few reasons to watch Fox and this is one of them!
Great show. Please don’t cancel!
Love it! It’s a cross between Columbo and Monk and even tho 4 episodes had aired before I began watching, I have since watched them all to present. He’s so quirky and the cast is perfect 🙂
Please bring back Backstrom! I love the show, the characters are great and the writers are doing a wonderful job.
Montecore, I think it is coming back at the end of March, along with Bones I think. Bones will be the perfect lead in for this show so lets hope it encourages Fox to keep it.
I am asking Fox not to renew Backstrom. I realize this is supposed to be a comedy but degrading someones culture was not appreciated. You do not walk up to a Sweat Lodge when a ceremony is going on and open the door and start yelling at people inside. There are certain things you have to get permission from the tribes medicine person to do especially around our ceremonies. Do something like this again and I will sue your network and actors. Fred Short, American Indian Movement Spiritual Advisor
If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Those of us who do enjoy it can keep watching.
Fred you need to get over yourself, there is way too much political correctness in this world, lighten up and learn to laugh. This show picks on everyone and is great!
Totally agree, some people take things to much as a personal insult (politically correctness is code word for “whiny baby” good grief learn to live and introspect. If something isn’t good it will be driven off by popular demand not just whiny people. Backstrom is the poster child for the politically incorrect and it’s working for him (gotta love his eye rolls). This show fills a huge hole in the TV market! Life is for living and not the whiny, learn to get a “REAL” life………………………… People should start getting a pat on the back for not being sooo politically… Read more »
The whole idea is that the guy is a bulldozer for cripe sakes, that’s the point. Nobody is sacred, Mr. Wilson even said that the point was you can see that the aberrant behavior is not working for the guy so he is progressing as a person.
Fred grow up – “I’m gonna sue you”. Good grief. That nonsense is what’s wrong with our society. First get a life: you’re not suing anyone and to write that as a threat in requesting a tv show be canceled is just plain sad. Now get a grip: turn the channel on your tv and watch something else, and leave a great show and all involved alone.
Ditto Rob! There’s a reason it’s called “politically” correct and not socially or morally correct. I totally stand up for “Get A Life” correct!!!
This is a very good show. I find it hard to believe that some dumbass with no vision would even consider taking this show off the air? I am so tired of dumb***** ruining tv for people because they have no sense of comedy, drama, or any thing of an entertainment value!
Give it a chance to win over more viewers. I love watching this quirky and entertaining show!
They seriously needs to give this show a chance. I really like it so far. It’s not perfect, but I believe that with a little time, it could become a pretty successful show. I am so tired of these networks canceling shows just because the ratings aren’t ‘quite high enough’ after like 4 episodes.. It has become only about the quick and easy payout for most of these greedy jerks. There are still over 3 MILLION PEOPLE watching it.. 3 million people that want to know what’s going to happen, 3 million people that can get their family and friends… Read more »
I agree!!!
Hey Fox, if you can bring us back another season of “The Following” where I think we are going to get more of the same…give us a break and let Backstrom find its way. You can begin by putting it in a time slot not associated with American Idol. American Idol attracts one type of demographic and Backstrom another.
Agreed!!!! There is nothing like this show on TV right now. The characters develop slowly and each is rich in depth. Well written. Keep it!
I love this show. Fox has enough crap on TV it needs to give it a chance. It would be perfect on the same night as Bones….both are tongue in cheek with interesting characters.
