TV show description:
This offbeat crime procedural is based on the Swedish book series by Leif G. W. Persson. The series follows Detective Everett Backstrom (Rainn Wilson). He’s an unhealthy, offensive, irascible (also brilliant) detective who is brought back from exile to run the Portland Police Bureau’s Special Crimes Unit (SCU).
Tasked with navigating the city’s most sensitive and serious cases, Backstrom must solve each crime as he tries, and fails, to change his own self-destructive behavior.
Backstrom’s second in command is Detective Nicole Gravely (Genevieve Angelson). Detective John Almond (Dennis Haysbert) is a kind and devoutly religious man who’s been married for 30 years and serves as a pastor on weekends.
Sergent Peter Niedermayer (Kristoffer Polaha) is the unit’s Forensics Liaison and Officer Frank Moto (Page Kennedy) is one of the members of the Special Crimes Unit. Foreign-born civilian Nadia Paquet (Beatrice Rosen) supports the detectives.
Meanwhile, Gregory Valentine (Thomas Dekker) is Backstrom’s decorator and “underworld connection”.
Episode #13 — Rock Bottom
When a Native American is found dead under a bridge on the Wabacooche Indian reservation, Amy’s (guest Sarah Chalke) new boyfriend and Indian Reserve Police Captain, Jesse Rocha (guest Adam Beach), wants in on the case. Backstrom then learns that Indian meth-king Norwest (guest Gregory Cruz), of Cooch County, is a suspect in the case, and he is convinced his father, Cooch County Sheriff Blue Backstrom (guest Robert Forster), knows about Norwest’s drug dealings, leaving Backstrom to make a difficult decision. Meanwhile, in order to keep his job with the S.C.U., Backstrom must impress Dr. Deb (guest Rizwan Manji).
First aired: April 30, 2015.
What do you think? Do you like the Backstrom TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season?
My husband and I love Backstrom and look forward to watching it every Thursday. It is well written and acted. Every week has been better and better. Compared to all the stupid poorly written and acted shows that continue on TV it is a breath of fresh air. We rarely watch the basic commercial shows being they usually are so unwatchable with a silly plot and poorly acted. We will miss Backstrom if it is cancelled.
I’m bummed.it was my fave! So different from the rest. I suggested a different time slot but obviously nobody listened. Nice try! It brought me so much enjoyment. Sorry that the stupid people couldn’t see that!

Our family really like this show. It is different from any show that we have ever seen and it is so unpredictable”.
Love Backstrom he is as flawed as the rest of us and I enjoy his genius. Iwould like to see it continue….
This is by far my favorite show! Please don’t cancel it!
Terrific show please don’t cancel.
Please keep this show his character is great. He s not a do everything perfect kind of guy. You have different characters’ played by great actors. This show has me guessing till the end. Not like most detective shows I watch. I may not be in the 18-35 age group but I have seen lots of shows come and lots of shows go and this is one that needs to stay. I am tired of reality shows. Give me comic drama which this show has.
GREAT show. Please DO NOT CANCEL!
KEEP IT!
PLEASE keep this show on!!!! Love, love, love it!!! Backstrom is an evil genius, well…evil anyway!! Ha!! Love Valentine…we definitely been more Valentine!! Niedermayer is too funny! Love the cast…they’re ALL great. Keep it up & keep in on the air!!!
I totally love all the characters they are different from each other. They compliment each other. I also love Valentine…He is a great roommate for Backstrom. LOL. I love it!!!!
This show is great! I haven’t missed an episode!
I have my alarm clock set to go off 10 minutes before it comes on so I can stay glued to the TV to watch and not miss anything.
Please , we vote, please keep this show on the air. My daughter had to ask me more than once to watch this , and she was right about it being Waaayyyyyyyy Gooood! Thank you,Mary K. Scott
I record “Backstrom” so I can see the parts I missed because I was laughing. It’s intelligent and twisted. Good production values, ensemble acting, and rare writing skills. After almost abandoning TV altogether,I am happy to see the return of quality.
You said everything I feel.
Love the show. Backstrom, the anti hero, says things I have often wanted to say. Hope it doesn’t get cancelled.
My son and I both just really enjoy Backstrom, we can’t understand why it would possibly be cancelled when so many other less-significant and less-enjoyable shows might be renewed. PLEASE keep Backstrom on…
I was surprised when I read that Backstrom might not be renewed. The show is excellent. It offers a totally different approach compared to most police shows. The story lines are interesting and enjoyable. Backstrom’s salty, sharp, no filter personality always adds a good laugh to the investigation.
