It appears that Battle Creek has lost the ratings war. The low-rated Sunday night police series has been cancelled by CBS.
Battle Creek revolves around two mismatched law enforcement officers — Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) and FBI Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Josh Duhamel) — who have polar opposite views of the world and end up being partners. The rest of the cast includes Janet McTeer, Kal Penn, Aubrey Dollar, and Edward Fordham Jr.
The show debuted on March 1st to a disappointing 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.92 million viewers. The numbers got even worse in later weeks and has fallen to lows of a 0.7 demo rating and fewer than six million viewers.
Those numbers aren’t good enough for CBS to order a second season so they’ve now cancelled it.
There are four unaired episodes remaining and the last installment is currently scheduled to air on May 24th.
What do you think? Do you like the Battle Creek TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
I can’t believe this show has been cancelled. Great writing and interesting characters. Loved the characters, it will be missed.
I loved Battle Creek and I’m sad it wasn’t renewed.
I happen to be a big fan of Dean Winters so I looked forward to Sunday nights to watch Battle Creek. Every week it got better and better. I liked the show because it was different from the other police shows. The fact that it was a small town setting and the two main characters weren’t best buddies was interesting to me. Dean Winters cracked me up with his comments and hearing Josh’s story about how he got to the place he was in was interesting. I thjnk the show got a bad deal in that it was delayed a… Read more »
My wife and I both really enjoyed this show, and she is usually not a cop show fan. It is very well written, shows good character development, thoughtful plots, and a unique blending of contrasting personality types. The writers make it work and keep it from being trite. I’m going to keep the show listed in my DVR for another year before deleting it in the hope that CBS (or another network) would be wise enough to give it another try.
Just learned it was cancelled. Was. A great show, well writen. so much on your network (cbs) is just crap. hopefully another network will pick it up.(hello Netflix).
I really enjoyed Battle Creek. It was refreshing and touching. I like the quirky characters.
I loved the program. CBS generally has the best lineup, but this time they are cancelling one of my favorites.
Maybe if it weren’t on Sunday Night, it would have fared better.
What are my other favorites?
NCIS, NCIS New Orleans, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-O, and Elementary, all cop shows.
I can’t stand NCIS LA because it is not credible, the “staff” is just to “california” to be believeable. I mean hippie agents, really? Idiots!
NCIS LA is so ridiculous with illogical plots and impossible shoot outs. The producers insult the viewing audience. This show survives while they can Battle Creek. Incredulous.
Great show.
CBS is a bunch of idiots.
They probably would cancel Cheers nowadays.
Battle Creek should be renewed as it had finally cemented the relationship between Russ & Milt. I DVR’d it every week along with my roommate. Please bring it back!
I have written to CBS, and received nothing. I expected that, but it was still disappointing. So today I wrote to Netflix and included about 50 of the messages from this blog. All we are doing here is being unhappy together. We aren’t furthering our ’cause’ It’s easy to say the show was great, (which we all agree) and to write something to that effect, and that’s better than many who loved the program and did nothing, but if we want to see it back on the air, to watch the chemistry between the characters grow, to see the plots… Read more »
I really like hearing of the people rallying to save Battle Creek. Here are a few more ways: You can write by regular mail to CBS Audience Services, 524 W. 57th St., New York, NY 10019, or by email to CBSaudienceENT@cbs.com. You can telephone 212-975-3247 between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Eastern time Mondays through Fridays; outside those hours you can get a recording to leave a message. If you want to write to the “Battle Creek” production company, that’s Woodridge Productions Inc., Manhattan Beach Studios; 1600 Rosecrans Ave., Bldg 2A, second floor, South… Read more »

Battle Creek should not have been canceled. It was a refreshing change of pace through its “odd couple” approach. CBS should reconsider its decision to cancel.
I liked Battle Creek a lot. Why don’t they try another time slot?
We’re really dissapointed battle creek was canceled. This was our favor new show..would love to see it comeback somehow…
So bummed to learn Battle Creek has been cancelled!! Agree with all the above comments…smart, funny, quirky characters, interesting story lines etc. Appreciated the not overly graphic violence that is way too common these days. From where I sit maybe CBS has targeted the wrong demographic as my husband and I are a bit older than the 18-49 set.
I love this show. I wish another net work would pick it up.!!!
