BET has announced that their first scripted drama, Being Mary Jane, is returning on February 3rd. Season two will have a dozen episodes and the season finale is set for April 21st.
Created by Mara Brock Akil, Being Mary Jane revolves around a capable TV journalist (Gabrielle Union) who tries to juggle her job with her hectic personal and family life. The cast also includes Lisa Vidal, Margaret Avery, Omari Hardwick, Richard Brooks, B.J. Britt, Latarsha Rose, Raven Goodwin, Aaron D. Spears, and Richard Roundtree.
According to the cable channel, season two will unfold this way: “On the home front, while both of her brothers seem to be getting their lives on the right track, her mother and niece are at war, causing everyone to choose sides. Mary Jane’s career at her cable network takes an interesting turn when she decides to feature more and more stories about the ‘Black experience.’ All the while, she makes a brave decision to try every way possible to conceive a child, just as she is opening her heart to a new man.”
