Bionic Woman aired for a combined total of three seasons between ABC and NBC during the late 1970s. Lindsay Wagner was the star of the series, and she has continued to act since then.
At the Winter TCA’s on Tuesday, Wagner spoke about the female superheroes seen on television today, and she was not completely enthusiastic about the portrayal of them. According to TV Insider, she said:
“It’s mixed. It’s great that women are now allowed to be heroes. But I am also concerned when I see that a lot of the modern day ideas of a female superhero are just yesterday’s male hero in some tights. The whole point of having a woman in a leadership position of any kind is to hopefully bring the feminine aspect of wisdom and intelligence to whatever they’re attempting to do.”
There are more female superheroes on television today thanks to shows CBS’ Supergirl and CW series like Arrow, The Flash, and the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow.
Females are doing more than staying at home or working behind a desk. Do you agree with Lindsay Wagner’s opinion? Tell us what you think.
I am staying anonymous i do agree with you they even have the never to complain about captain marvel, cat woman, also electra we need more strong super woman in cinema and television.
Yes, I agree with Lindsay.
Very much agree. Jamie Sommers was “super” because of her femininity, not in spite of it. Modern female super heroes have to act entirely like men to be “super”. Bring back the lasso of truth.
I used to love watching that show, love Lindsay too. Also watched Six Million Dollar man. Both good shows. I don’t watch ANY “superhero” type movies now, male OR female. I agree with her comment. It doesn’t take a mere pair of tights or uniform to make a “hero” OR “heroine.”
I agree with Lindsey Wagner. Women should do great at whatever they do.
Not being a super hero.
Disagree about her comments on TV’s female superheroes. The Bionic Woman was one of my favorite classic television shows when I was growing up.
Wasn’t the Bionic Woman just the female version of the Six Million Dollar Man?
With all due respect, I disagree. She came into her own throughout her series. I was just a kid during the 70’s but a huge fan of both shows. I think she paved the way for female leads like Jodi Foster, Gillian Anderson, & the like, but I do agree with some of her views.
Oh. These were before my time. I had heard it was a spin off but have never seen either one. Thanks for the info.
no i don’t agree. she’s living in the past. she wants to be the premier female super hero. well life has moved on. supergirl is a good example of a modern day female super hero.
