The game is over for Coach Daniels (Ed Marinaro) and his team. There won’t be a fourth season for Blue Mountain State. The Spike TV series has been cancelled.
The comedy series revolves around the on and off-field antics of Pennsylvania college football powerhouse, Blue Mountain State. Coach Daniels has his hands full with the hijynx of his wife (Denise Richards) and students like team captain Thad (Alan Ritchson), quarterback Alex (Darin Brooks), and team mascot Sammy (Chris Romano).
The comedy performed decently for Spike in season one and realized significant gains in season two. The cable channel reported that the series saw a 33% increase with men 18-34, a 50% climb in men 18-24, and a 14% increase with men 18-49.
Total viewership dropped however in season three which kicked off this past September. While some episodes of season two had attracted 1.25 million viewers, at least one episode of season three garnered only half as many viewers. Spike TV aired the last two episodes of the season on November 30th. It turns out they’ll also be the last of the series as well.

Lionsgate, the studio that produces Blue Mountain State, apparently considered shopping the series to other outlets but it didn’t work out. The cast and crew were recently told that season four wouldn’t be happening.
While it’s been reported that the show was cancelled due to a decline in ratings, producer Eric Falconer says differently. He tweeted, “BMS wasn’t cancelled because of a drop in ratings. Season 3 was actually up 20% + in all male demographics vs S2. It was a budget issue.”
As recently as last week, Falconer was still hoping to hear that the show had been picked up for season four. However, it seems that State was actually living on borrowed time with Spike — even during season three. Last August, Spike TV executive VP Sharon Levy told Variety that the cable channel would be focusing on only non-scripted programming for the immediate future.
Of the cancellation news, Ritchson wrote, “Sad day for #BMS fans.” He followed that up with, “I can’t thank the dedicated cast, crew, and fans enough for all the love and support. Portraying Thad was a dream come true. I’m grateful.”
Brooks thanked the cast and crew and “everyone who made this show possible…a HUGE thank you!! Love you guys!!”

blue mountain state was by far one of the greatest shows ever aired. It’s the only show that ive seen, that shows true humor of college boys to life. it doesnt sugar coat or fabricate anything its right in your face. this show is so good that if has people at a point where there watching old episodes on netflix or whatever else, over and over again and the funny part is the episodes dont become old.. financially bringing BMS back to air be 200% SMART IDEA. and also you would bring smiles to the faces of a huge portion… Read more »

In my opinion spike tv made a horrible decision.They dropped the only great show they have.I mean i live in reality so reality tv is retarded don’t they realize once you put a camera around people they change.They start acting different than they would normaly in “REALITY” therefore so called reality shows are not anywhere close to the actual truth or “REALITY”. Seriously???? Hard working Americans? This show was filmed in Canada!! They employ 98% of Canadian actors and crew. Canada has a monopoly on American shows. They film the pilot in the States and move the series to Canada. FYI: All those girls you saw were from the Montreal area. Oh Canada,
This show was my favorite show I ever watched. I’m so upset there won’t be a season 4. That ruins the whole series. If they just did one more season to end the series it would be great. Moran has to finish highschool. He was my favorite person in the whole show.

You know if TV shows would stay on a certain night during the whole year instead of just broadcasting new episodes and then replacing with awful realty shows we may know when to tune in and watch programs like Blue Mountain. This is the same for network TV. I have a number of favorite shows and have no idea when to watch them. You should check your ratings, if possible, on Hulu, Netflix, etc. DVD sales? this is the funniest show i have ever seen! I actually thought season three was the best season yet. I would watch this show for 40 more years.
BMS is one of the best shows I’ve seen it has so many priceless comedy moments and a Big Fail on spike Tv for dropping the show for a stupid reason ” non-scripted shows” I’m pretty sure manswers was a scripted show but how long was that aired, this show should go to another channel I’m sure comedy central would love to have it

i cannot believe it is over. me and all my friends are shocked and pretty well dissapointed. theres so many things you can do to continue this great show. thad could come back as a coach, as a trainer, you could find a way to make him another year, i mean sammie and moran still have the greatest year ever to go through, and he has to be a pro or a gym teacher at some point. i never watched actual tv until this show.

They can even make it the official end of it all, But it is now cut off before Alex reahes his final year of college!

I would watch a movie or season 4, 5 ,6 ,7 8. This show is great. I think it is just really starting to catch on. Spike is dumb for canceling this show. What show is even on spike worth watching?
