Created by Robert and Michelle King, The Good Wife ran for seven seasons on CBS. The series was never a hit in the ratings but it was a source of pride for the network and kept being renewed. How has the Kings’ new summer series, BrainDead, been performing? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On BrainDead, Laurel Healy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has returned home to Washington, DC to work for her brother, Senator Luke Healy (Danny Pino) on Capitol Hill. She is caught in the midst of two huge problems: the government has stopped working due to budgetary disagreements, and mysterious bugs are eating the brains of a growing number of members of Congress and Hill staffers. The rest of the cast includes Aaron Tveit, Tony Shalhoub, Nikki M. James, Johnny Ray Gill, Charlie Semine, and Jan Maxwell.
Debuting in June, the first episode of BrainDead drew a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.59 million viewers. It was an unimpressive start to be sure and the numbers have fallen much lower as the weeks have progressed. The seventh episode’s ratings represented a new low, drawing a 0.3 demo rating with 1.75 million viewers.
Despite the talent behind the program, it is highly unlikely that CBS will want to invest in a second season of BrainDead. Hopefully the last installments will provide enough closure to satisfy the show’s audience. Episode 11 is scheduled for next week and the last two of the season are set for September 11th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the BrainDead TV show? Should it be cancelled? Would you watch a second season?
10/18 update: CBS has cancelled BrainDead after one season. Details here.
Don’t cancel! It is so funny. Think all politicians are already infected
Please bring it back. So much fun in this political satire.
Please bring BrainDead back. It was my favorite show.
This was a great show! I’m sick of the networks canceling all the good shows! Funny, suspenseful great actors! Shame on CBS! Each show should get at least a two season deal.
Loved this show. It was so intelligent. That was that problem. Not enough skin in the first 30 seconds. The jokes were too subtle for the demographic. I was beside myself when the cure was revealed. Every mother’s revenge.
Love this show, I don’t think people know about it , more would be watching it!
I agree with Kari T, and anybody else that loves it. AWESOME! LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!
Please keep this show on the air. It is so relevant to the political climate we will be living in for the next 4 years.
Please bring this show back. It really is relevant to the politicians in the Big House these days. I find myself thinking them must have Bugs in their heads.
a real favorite but with Trump election, we’re post-satire
This is a smart, clever show. They did a grat job with the writers, camera work, on and on. Perhaps NetFlix or Amazon will pick up this project.
Bring it back. Hilarious.
.
I loved all the episodes. Please don’t 1cancel series 2
Love, love, love the show. Funny, satirical, good clean fun. Great show for this wacky political time we are in. One bug surviving the fumigation of the cherry blossom trees gave me hope that it will return — please! Looked forward to watching it every week. Also loved tbe music! Very funny and current. CBS please reconsider.
l love the show! Please have a season two
Love it, don’t cancel it.
