Though Breakthrough with Tony Robbins had some positive goals and reviews, the viewers just didn’t show up. The show’s been cancelled by NBC after just two episodes.
Self-help master Tony Robbins broke the unfortunate news to his followers yesterday. He tweeted, “Hey everyone! Despite great critical reviews of our show, it has not pulled a large enough audience for 8 pm.”
After being flooded with well-wishes, Robbins wrote, “Thanks 4 the kind comments. I’m proud of what we created & glad it touched U all ‘In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity’ Einstein”
Though NBC hasn’t announced plans to air the remaining four installments, the network has assured Robbins they will see the light of day.
He reported, “Spoke to head of NBC They say show has loyal following, 3 million ppl would be mega hit on any cable. All specials will air maybe Bravo or [MSNBC.]” (In recent interviews, Robbins has been describing the show as a series of specials.)
Robbins followed that up with “NBC said unfortunate nature of competitiveness on tues 8 pm summer no time for show to build audience…Bravo, or MSNBC may be new distribut”
What do you think? Would Breakthrough with Tony Robbins have attracted as many viewers and been a hit on cable?
Robbins should not have taken such big issues to play with, like the first episode, even if the intentions were good.
His motivational skills are best when you measure the effects, reach a goal such as getting that dream job, finding the right kind of significant other, and losing the excess weight.
The Robbins’ strategies just don’t get to shine when you can’t measure the outcome, which is part of the problem for the show concept, in my opinion.
How the heck could this show be cancelled?! With all the garbage reality tv out there and along comes a show with real people dealing with real problems that we can all relate to. I understand the ratings weren’t where they needed to be, but I think word was just starting to spread on how good this show really is. It wasn’t cheesy at all, which is what I think people were expecting it to be. Someone at NBC needs to step up and push for this show to continue. I GUARANTEE the ratings will shoot up…
This is NOT a negative thing AT ALL. Tony has started something very special with Breakthrough. Don’t be surprised if Tony comes back with something else or if Someone else takes action and creates a positive driven TV show. hmmmm….. I’m a coach and Inspirational speaker….HEY WAIT…. I have started something! http://www.youtube.com/chrismarsh78

We LOVED the two episodes. Both my partner and I cried and felt elation for the success of the couples troubles. Wish there were a real Tony Robbins for all of us.
Sure could use him. Bring back shows that don’t deal with sex, violence and discouragement. We NEED hope and inspiration.
Soooo disappointed! What about the 3M people who are interested in good TV that actually does provide value? Pls. market it as one of your product, it it sure to become a hit!
This show needs to air. Please find the right time and channel, then let us know.
I doubt if there’s a person alive who wouldn’t benefit by listening to Tony Robbins, but Tony’s message is less for the general public and more for people who are willing to learn and work and invest in themselves to build a better life.
It’s too bad the show was pulled on NBC, but I think that with the right strategic approach, it would be a BIG success on cable and eventually generate a following big enough to switch back to network.
Just sad that such a powerful show can be thrown away like an old rag. I just started to watch the show and got my wife to get into it. We was actually looking forward to the next episode and made sure we had Tuesday night available to watch it. I agree with @Jordan, NBC did a poor job in marketing it. I too had no idea it was on till the day it aired. Very disappointing. This show could have changed many lives.
I’m really disappointed in NBC. Tony Robbins is unique and I was really hoping to see all his shows!! Get him back please!!!
Tony is awesome and I got alot out of his shows and even got my husband to watch it with me. It wasnt given a fair chance. Tony get your own TV station and we will continue to watch you.
Wish you the Best
It’s just sad that nbc, didn’t market the show better I missed it both times because I was not sure of the time and didn’t even know it existed until the first day of the show….This is a network that is historically bad at marketing and this is just another example….too bad as the first two episodes were fantastic and with the right network could have owned that time slot.

I am disappointed that the show has been cancelled — it was very inspirational. NBC ought to have doubled down on the promotion rather than abandoning the show.
I’m sure that Tony will be on to something much bigger in the future. Maybe try the show on another time slot or network.
I was so disappointed it was actually something I got my husband interested in. We sat down as a couple and watched the program together . I was looking forward to it it teaching us with compassion, love, yet with demands from both of us. We loved it . Please do all you can to to come back. We will pray for you.
