Though Breakthrough with Tony Robbins had some positive goals and reviews, the viewers just didn’t show up. The show’s been cancelled by NBC after just two episodes.
Self-help master Tony Robbins broke the unfortunate news to his followers yesterday. He tweeted, “Hey everyone! Despite great critical reviews of our show, it has not pulled a large enough audience for 8 pm.”
After being flooded with well-wishes, Robbins wrote, “Thanks 4 the kind comments. I’m proud of what we created & glad it touched U all ‘In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity’ Einstein”
Though NBC hasn’t announced plans to air the remaining four installments, the network has assured Robbins they will see the light of day.
He reported, “Spoke to head of NBC They say show has loyal following, 3 million ppl would be mega hit on any cable. All specials will air maybe Bravo or [MSNBC.]” (In recent interviews, Robbins has been describing the show as a series of specials.)
Robbins followed that up with “NBC said unfortunate nature of competitiveness on tues 8 pm summer no time for show to build audience…Bravo, or MSNBC may be new distribut”
What do you think? Would Breakthrough with Tony Robbins have attracted as many viewers and been a hit on cable?
SHAME ON NBC!!! How can they cancel such an inspirational show as Breakthrough with Tony Robbins!?!? And to have the nerve to replace it with “Minute to Win It”??? It’s shameful…what a shame…
We agree wholeheartedly with all the previous comments……
only idiots cancel a show that is this worthwhile after only two weeks!
I’m very disappointed that this show was not given a fighting chance and canceled so abrubtly. Of all the shows to throw away, this was not the one.
I hope the network reconsiders this move.
There’s no acceptable excuse NBC can give for wasting an opportunity to upgrade the quality of TV programming, not to mention giving several million viewers a much needed chance to watch something of high value and something uplifting. I was disappointed to see there was no Tony Robbins after waiting all week for it. If there was a cancellation announcement I would not have seen it since my TV has been off since last Tues. at 8:00 pm. So, I turned the TV off again. Nope…I’m NOT glued. I’ve got a life. The stupid crappy game show programs on NBC… Read more »
The shows were well produced and inspiring. Thanks for putting the effort into the production and I hope to see them all wherever they are distributed.
NBC – Brilliant marketing. Way to create huge demand with the ultimate take-away. Hopefully that is your strategy. To have actually have canceled such a powerful and inspirational show, especially during times of uncertainty would confirm how out of touch TV execs can be. Bravo!
What an incredible disappointment!! Also looking forward to the show all day, and some mindless game show is now on.
While Oprah is adamant about her “No Phone Zone” message while her best friend, Obama, is killing 2 people a day–one in the Middle East, and then one Armed Services person commits suicide per day from thinking of going there, I think there’s a disconnect from the two about reality, no more Oprah, and so this does save $45/month cable bill. And Tony Robbins was the only show better than Oprah.
Hi Tony,
What a shame about your show. We loved the show and had friends over to watch it. We watched them three times. At my office we shared the stories and talked about what we had learned from the show. NBC should have advertised it more, and gave it more time.

The first show was excellent. The second one was very marginal…rather depressing and unrealistic. Who would have the jet plane handy to drive? and who would actually go sleep in the homeless shelter for a week? A little over the top. I know people who said they turned it off mid show.
I was looking forward to more episodes to see more stories and hopefully more realistic.
I think NBC should have given him more of a chance.

Tony;
This is so disappointing. I was really enjoying your Breakthrough… I hope that some how some way we can find a way to watch the remaining 4 episodes.. Please let me know how.. Thank you jodi
With so many horrid shows like people having their cars repossessed, having to take items to pawn shops, and all of the idiot shows where people act like spoiled children I think it does not speak well of the American public that a show like Breakthrough is not more popular while these other shows continue. However, I think two shows is a pretty limited test. I think people who are more selective of the shows they watch might take longer to get this show in their schedule.
To say that I’m disappointed that “Breakthrough” was cancelled is a huge understatement. It was so refreshing to at last find major network programming that celebrated human achievement in authentic and heartwarming ways. NBC unfortunately threw a priceless gem into the trash can. It is my prayer that another, more progressive network will recognize the value of this series and choose to showcase it with the accompanying promotion and marketing it deserves. Tony Robbins’ series was a hallmark of quality and demonstrated the potential of television to inspire and motivate all of us to master and overcome what we perceive… Read more »
I can’t believe this show was canceled! It saddens me that people would rather watch ‘Wipeout’ than a show with uplifting stories about the human spirit, and overcoming hardships. I guess that’s the problem with this country…we’re truly headed toward “Idiocracy”…
NBC needs to grow some balls. Be apart of helping this nation in tough times. This was the best show I have seen in twenty years. To replace it with a game show …. I will boycott NBC till they bring it back
What a tragedy! I rarely watch television, just too busy with life it seems, yet this is the one show I made time for and looked forward to. I’ve been reading Robbins’ books since they first came out, listened to the tapes until they wore out, lol. It breaks my heart that such a positive and meaningful show is canceled. Now it’s back to reading again for me I guess!
