Though Breakthrough with Tony Robbins had some positive goals and reviews, the viewers just didn’t show up. The show’s been cancelled by NBC after just two episodes.
Self-help master Tony Robbins broke the unfortunate news to his followers yesterday. He tweeted, “Hey everyone! Despite great critical reviews of our show, it has not pulled a large enough audience for 8 pm.”
After being flooded with well-wishes, Robbins wrote, “Thanks 4 the kind comments. I’m proud of what we created & glad it touched U all ‘In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity’ Einstein”
Though NBC hasn’t announced plans to air the remaining four installments, the network has assured Robbins they will see the light of day.
He reported, “Spoke to head of NBC They say show has loyal following, 3 million ppl would be mega hit on any cable. All specials will air maybe Bravo or [MSNBC.]” (In recent interviews, Robbins has been describing the show as a series of specials.)
Robbins followed that up with “NBC said unfortunate nature of competitiveness on tues 8 pm summer no time for show to build audience…Bravo, or MSNBC may be new distribut”
What do you think? Would Breakthrough with Tony Robbins have attracted as many viewers and been a hit on cable?
Tony’s program was a refreshing, valuable perspective on hardship, which is our opportunity for greatness. For decades TV has focused on being a victim. I have studied with Tony for years, listened to his lecture on tape, CD, done his firewalks and know how valuable his knowledge is to people. When I learned that he had a program, which by the way was not promoted except at the last minute and without the usual fanfair of new show, I set the TV to record it. That way I could watch it repeatedly and share it with people who needed encouragement.… Read more »
What a mistake by NBC to not promote Tony’s show. This show is exactly what we need to see and hear during troubled times, not escape games. So many in the country could relate and be helped by what was show in the show. We will miss seeing more.
We saw one of the shows last week by accident – had seen no promos or advertising and completely unaware of its existence – realised 10 minutes in that it was the best TV we had seen on any channel in years – told everyone about it and have been looking for it again all this week – just went online now to find schedule and found out it has been cancelled – this is much too soon, people haven’t had time to see it or realise how inspirational and helpful it is – we really want to see more!!
I was soooo disappointed to turn on my TV & not see Breakthrough on that 3rd Tuesday! This show was something I looked forward to all week and something I was committed to watching every week. I don’t watch TV generally, but I’m a big fan of Tony and was delighted to see such a positive and inspiring program. These were messages that I could apply to my own life, I was talking it up to everybody….
NBC hasn’t been honest about the reason for cancellation of Breakthrough. Summer shows often have light viewership so it’s not unusual to have lower ratings. What the real reason was is that they found out how much Tony Robbins makes when viewers go to his website as a result of watching the show and sign up for his courses. NBC wants in on the revenue, and they are renegotiating a deal to show the next four episodes that will let them share on the lucrative post-show clicking from viewers.
I never saw any promotion for the show. Just happened upon it last week and thought it just the kind of uplifting show that is needed right now. With so little to watch particularly on network TV, NBC made a terrible decision not to allow more time for audiences to find it.
It is unfortunate that such a great show was cancelled. There are so few inspirational programs out today. Most highlight the worst in people which seems to sell and when a show comes along that offers real inspiration it can’t make it on network television. Can’t wait for it to come out on DVD! Thank you Tony!
I love the show! It was inspiring and uplifting!
I loved the show and talked about it to co-workers! I looked forward to seeing it. I found it inspirational. Please try again. I would be a loyal fan of your show.
An Absolutely Amazing Show!!! Cancelled After Only Two shows?? Replaced with “Minute To Win It”?? Pittiful! This is EXACTLY what is wrong with this great country of ours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really?? Cancelled because of low ratings? It was replaced with “Minute To Win It”. Really?? Pittiful!!! This just helps to explain some of whats wrong with our country…
There are major events in people’s lives that when shared touched so many more…. NBC has demonstrated their ‘real’ colors and concern for their audience. I await to see the remaining episodes or purchase them on DVD.
Thank you Tony!!
Major disappointment. Loved the show and always took notes.
What a bummer! I was very disappointed to see NBCs offering instead of the inspirational, positive and practical Tony Robbins. Tony Rocks! I really hope this shows up somewhere.
This is extremely disappointing!! I had been looking forward to watching the show all day. Tony always makes me smile…he helped us through tough times by listening to his audios. My father-in-law walked on fire rocks at the age of 65 b/c of Tony’s motivation…he is real reality!!
