In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

Very VEry VERY SAD!!! Just found out about this being canceled not to long ago. Just thought it was a break that took too long to return. This show was my get-a-way. I have laughed, loved, and cried with this show. What will I do without it now! I have NEVER been a fan of DHW and will look to another network to find another great show. thanks alot! 🙁
ABC Execs, please reconsider. This series was great and will truly be missed. The ending to Series 5 left it wide open for you to reconsider and not only go for Series 6 but 7 & 8.
Dear ABC, not exactly sure how ratings work but for you to keep Desperate Housewives on the air and cancel Brothers and Sisters, I have lost faith in ABC.
Just heard that B&S is now cancelled….cant believe it!! One of the few shows I look forward to, and like so many others I seldom catch it as it airs, prefering to record it. There are so many storylines left hanging, and so much more the writers can do with the show. Shame on these execs….with so much BS on tv just now, this was one wee gem that they are letting go of. Hopefully with the backlash they may have second thoughts…or its just a publicity stunt to incite a bit of hysteria!! Hope its the latter.

VERY dissapointed the show was cancelled especially if they are going to promote DH. B&S was a family oriented show with lots of potential and as one fan wrote the so called execs kept putting the show on later and later on their time slots. Remember MOST viewers watching were probably women who WORK, must get up EARLY to get the family off to school and work and still make sure the household runs smoothly. Hi We saw the last episode in Australia this week – very disappointing that it’s the last and the by the sounds of it the “execs” chose Desparate housewifes over it – That show I turned off a couple of years ago – it had definately seen its days (abosolute junk), Not so for B & S – will miss it…but the ending has enough openings for a 6th seaason.
I was devastated to hear that this week’s show was the last ever – I just couldn’t believe it. There are so many cops and robbers and violent shows on TV that it was just wonderful to get some good family viewing. I feel like I’ve lost part of my family. I don’t often watch the commercial channels (I live in Australia) but I always made a point of sheduling in this one.
RIP Brothers and Sisters – let’s hope someone sees sense and revives it next year!!!!!!!!!

It is sad that great shows like brothers and sisters which deal with family issuses who discuss and communicate get taken off. Not a happy person.

Cancelled, are you kidding me? It was such a good show. After the first season I thought for sure it would be cancelled because it was so good and it seems the best shows are dumped and the crap left to air. What is with you people, Fast Forward, Bros and Sis’s, come on!
If it is getting low ratings it could be because the time slot has been moved to later and later in the evening. I loved Sally Fields and her extended family.
I am also writing from Australia. I am very disappointed Brothers and Sisters has been cancelled. I normally watch documentary’s and the ABC but I just absolutely loved Brothers and Sisters. If I couldn’t watch it I would always record this show.. It will be grately missed. I’m very sad.

We are so dissapointed that this is the end for Brothers and Sisters, our family enjoy this so much and waish we had a family like the walkers, especially Nora. We live in England and can’t believe it’s the last one! 🙁
