In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

OH man….I am crushed….I loved the walker family drama. To have a large family and always having someone to vent to or argue to…we saw it all with that family, and in the end they all came together!

CRAP!!! what will they replace it with some STUPID reality show? I have one for you, network executive swap, swap abc’s executive for a chimp, he would have to be smarter.
Damn why TV executives keep doing this. When shows bring in the money it’s all good once rating is down it gets the axe. That’s just so typical…it’s all about the money. This world is one sad place were money is everything instead of positive values and showing something that really mean something. I like this show a lot and always watched it. Now I’m not evening going to invest time in watching ABC….Bad television…for doing such a lousy job in holding onto something worth keeping 🙁 !!!
I agree. I just found out it was cancelled and I am extremely disappointed. One of the best shows on tv was canceled. What happened to quality tv? Enough with the stupid reality shows.
I am heartbroken too that Brothers and Sisters will not be on anymore. I loved Sunday nights and looked forward all week to seeing the Walker family. I wish this had meaning to someone!
So done with ABC – just went to check tonight to see when Brothers & Sisters was going to start back up and found out it was cancelled – in MAY! We’ve been loyal fans and viewers of the Walker’s since the very 1st episode. First Boston Legal, now Brothers & Sisters, and Desperate Housewives is next. Guess TNT will pick up even more of my business…so sad on B&S.
Can’t believe the show was conceled. I agree that it was one of the better tv drama’s that covered all aspects of a tv family.
I am very disappointed that the show was canceled. It was one show I never missed. I loved it. I wish it would come back. It was my treat for the week.

I am very disappointed that Brothers and Sisters has been cancelled!! I was eagerly looking forward to a new season until I mentioned it and a friend said the show had been cancelled. I will be watching less television than I currently watch, and that is not much; it’s disheartening when quaility shows such as Brothers and Sisters are cancelled.
I agree, extremely disappointing Brothers and Sisters has been canceled ! The networks keep replacing all of our quality shows with so much mindless junk, which is why I also rarely turn on the TV anymore. And of course, there is no point in trying to enjoy any other well written or well cast series because it will only suffer the same fate as shows like Brothers & Sisters, Rubicon and the very “fragile” in ratings, Parenthood. RIP Brothers & Sisters, you will be miss TERRIBLY!!!!
I just searching the internet to see when Brothers and Sisters was to resume there season show and read that it had been cancelled. A continuation of how many series with no series finale is very disappointing – a series that leaves you up in the air. I loved watching the show and it was so true to life on how families go through so many problems but they are always there for each other. I am so disappointed with all the shows you have cancelled. All that’s left is the darn reality shows. I get enough reality all day, when are we going to get some entertaining shows back. Some feel good shows. The comedies that you currently have border on stupid. Nobody acts like they do. They are not believable. Why do you keep cancelling all the good programs. I am totally disgusted with your choices.
