Last week we reported that USA Network was working on a deal to renew Burn Notice for a seventh and final season of 13 episodes. Today, the cable channel announced that they had indeed renewed the show for 13 more episodes.
They didn’t say however that the seventh season will be the show’s last but one has to wonder. Though Burn Notice is USA’s most popular scripted series, they’re only renewing it for 13 episodes — the show’s smallest season since year one. Seasons two and three had 16 episodes each while years four, five, and six have had 18 installments each.
Do they want to use these 13 episodes to wrap up the show? We shall see.
Star Jeffrey Donovan recently told reporters on a conference call, “I think probably season seven will be our final season, and it will probably come down to those two people probably in some devastating fashion.”
Here’s the press release from USA. Please share your theories below.
USA NETWORK FIRES UP SEASON SEVEN ORDER FOR RATINGS POWERHOUSE “BURN NOTICE”
Emmy(R)-Nominated Original Drama Celebrates Its 100th Episode Milestone
NEW YORK, NY – November 7, 2012 – USA Network’s longest running original drama BURN NOTICE, consistently one of cable’s top scripted series, today received a 13-episode pickup for its seventh season. In 2013, the Emmy(R)-nominated series will join an elite group as the third show in the network’s history to reach 100 episodes. This pick-up completes the renewals of summer’s most successful block on television following the recent third season order of USA original SUITS.
“BURN NOTICE is like a fine wine that gets better with age,” said USA Network Co-Presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel. “Delivering high-octane action, gripping drama and nearly 7 million viewers for the mid-season finale, this veteran series is a proven staple of our portfolio.”
Fast-paced spy thriller BURN NOTICE follows the formerly black-listed spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan), currently working under-the-radar with the CIA on special projects. Michael’s eclectic team includes ex-IRA operative and girlfriend Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar), washed up former Navy Seal Sam (Bruce Campbell), ex-counter-intelligence agent Jesse (Coby Bell), and Michael’s mother – honorary member Madeline (Emmy(R) winner Sharon Gless). As the second half of the series sixth season returns on Thursday, November 8 at 9/8c with a special two-hour premiere, the team is stranded in Panama and desperate to find a way back to Miami.
BURN NOTICE, paired with original drama SUITS, was the most successful block on television this summer attracting more adults 25-54, 18-49 and 18-34 than any other pairing of scripted series.
BURN NOTICE was created, written and executive produced by Matt Nix. Mikkel Bondesen and Alfredo Barrios serve as executive producers. The series comes from Fox Television Studios and Fuse Entertainment.
Fox Television Studios produces scripted and unscripted programming for US broadcast and cable networks, and international broadcasters. The studio produces the hit series Burn Notice and White Collar, both for USA; and the series The Glades for A&E. What do you think? Are you glad to hear that Burn Notice has been renewed for a seventh season? Why do you think there will only be 13 episodes? Is this the end?

I really enjoy this show and look forward
to watching every week. Please don’t
cancel !!!!!
EVERY TIME THERE IS A SUPERB, QUALITY SHOW IN TV WASTELAND, THEY CANCEL. WHAT A SHAME, BURN NOTICE IS SMART, CREATIVE AND ENTERTAINING. I LOVE THE CHARACTERS, THE STORIES, AND BRUCE CAMPBELL, WHAT CAN I SAY. I HAVE BEEN UNHAPPY SINCE THE CANCELLED HIM ON BRISCOE COUNTY JR. (ANYONE REMEMBER ??) DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW
I cant believe that they could end the number one rated series on USA. I would highly recommend that they try to work something out and continue this series for all of its die hard fans. I for one will hate seeing it go off the line up. USA, listen to your fans and supporters.
I really hope they keep the show on I can’t get enough of burn notice and who doesn’t love Bruce Campbell. I really hope they have a change of heart and they keep the series going besides my TV timer is set for Thursday at 9 lol
It is just crazy to end this series! It is NOT getting old at all. The acting and creativity of this show are vastly superior to anything on tv. There is NO let-down. It is the best thing on TV.
Why?, Why ?, Why??? Please reconsider!
G L-M
This has been a solid show since the start. It is never-miss television for me. The characters interaction is interesting. Sharon Gless is marvelous as Michael’s mother, and Bruce Campbell is real charmer.
Unless you enjoy watching reality shows, there is not much on tv these days. It would be unfortunate to end this series, when there is such a loyal following.
Best spy show out there amazing cast works well together love the show
Can’t believe Burn Notice is ending. Please, please, please say it isn’t so!!!! BRING IT BACK FOR AN EIGHT SEASONB!!!!!
couldn’t there be a spin-off, at least?!
I don’t want Burn Notice to end. It is the best show on all of television. It could go on forever. Why take off a good thing when it is high in the ratings and just about everyone likes it!!!
I would like to know why this is the final season? I know actors get tired and want to move on to other things but this is a great show. It needs at least 5 more seasons.
Why won’t anyone at USA reply to the viewers on Burn Notice’s cancellation?
It is a fair and open query to the fans whom supported this show on a consistent basis.
Would be nice if just a cast member or rep from the network would respond!
So sorry to hear this will be Burn Notice’s last season. It is an absolutely great show and I would like to see it continue!
It’s been said that this show is cancelling because the city of Miami wants do to something else with the location where Burn Notice is show. If this is the truth then why can’t you shoot it somewhere else? You going to kill you ratings when you cancel a show that everyone looks forward to watching ever week.
