Most of ABC’s first-run summertime programming consists of reality TV series and game shows. Now they’ve introduced their new Castaways TV show. It’s yet another unscripted program, but we won’t think you’re crazy if it reminds you an awful lot of an old Alphabet Network hit drama. With its combination of Survivor-like circumstances, and Lost-like elements, can this new show reel in the wayward warm-weather audience? Will Castaways be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
An ABC reality show from Grant Kahler, Castaways aims to test the “human need for companionship under extreme circumstances.” The new series follows real people who have been dropped off, each seemingly alone, to survive on small Indonesian islands. While they don’t know it, along the way, each will learn there are “others” like them nearby. The series also includes flashbacks to the participants’ pre-island lives.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/19 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). They are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like Castaways TV series? Should this ABC TV show be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
*Status update: The series last aired in September 2018 and there’s been no renewal news more than a year later. It’s presumed to be cancelled.
Renew this show, love it!!!!
We really liked it!! Well done! Please bring back a season two.
I would love to see the show castaways cone back for a second and third season. Loved this show so much.
I was looking to see if there was going to be a second season because I want to apply to be part of it. It really makes me want to see more. It makes me consider my life and the people in it. It makes me consider what changes I need to make. Thank you Castaways.
The show was very inspiring. I was looking to see if there was another season because I would like to apply to be in season 2.
I loved it. Make more!
I loved this show. I am a fan of Lost and Survivor, so I am the target audience. I really appreciated the human and emotional moments. Everybody had such interesting back stories. The cinematography was amazing!
I do not have cable so I was forced to watch this on the ABC website. I watched many, many ads in order to see this show. I normally never watch ads because I stream everything. I would also happily have just paid for a season pass or by episode on Amazon. So ABC – let’s have another season!
I really liked the show. It was a good social/survival experiment. And I liked that there wasn’t obvious fake drama “unscripted” for the “non-actors”. I loved how they learned about each other through their journals and that they had choices as to whether to group and work together or not. They were all just normal, good people trying to survive, all for their own reasons. I would’ve liked to have seen a reunion show, though.
I can’t imagine a more boring show. Horrible.
The two out of a few that I thought would crack and leave turn out to be the most inspiring that I found myself rooting for and that is Robbie/Kenzie. You would think Tim, Eric and the two outdoorsman would be the ones to pull everyone together but Tim hit the nail on the head when he said Robbie showed leadership. These two showed what a human connection can do to help one another. Thank you Tim/Eric for your services and thanks to the rest of you for showing us we can survive on our very own island of problems!… Read more »
