Last season, CBS tried to establish new shows but almost all of them were cancelled due to low ratings. No new dramas survived and only two sitcoms did. Which shows will be cancelled or renewed this time? We’ll have wait and see.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Battle Creek, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, The Briefcase, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Cyber, Elementary, Extant, The Good Wife, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, The McCarthys, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, The Millers, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, Scorpion, Stalker, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, Under the Dome, Undercover Boss, and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
The only show I watch on CBS is Blue Bloods. I also watch it on ION TV, WGN, and whatever other channel they do repeats on.
I didn’t care for Battle Creek, so that is no loss. However, Stalker should not have been cancelled. Is there some way we can rally to bring it back? Please????? Does CBS even read these? You networks need to change your viewing demographics and care more about the older generation. 18-49 is a wide spectrum. How about 18-35, and then 35-60, and then 60 +? Then you would get more accurate ratings. If it’s based on commercials being directed at an age group, you will get more buying from the 35-60. The younger ages aren’t set in their ways so… Read more »
I am disappointed that Battle Creek and Stalker were cancelled. It seems when a different type of entertainment comes along it does get a poor rating.
Both of these shows on Sunday evening when PBS shows its popular shows o
CBS!!! You are CRAZY to cancel Battle Creek!!! You put the show on, on a night when there is no way it will get ratings, and then you cancel a TERRIFIC show with GREAT WRITING and GREAT characters!!! (oh yeah….I forgot….not enough sex, violence, dirty language, and obscene crimes!! )
I still can’t believe Battle Creek was cancelled after only 13 episodes. It’s well written and the actors are incredibly talented in bringing their characters to life. In a time when the majority of television is either extremely violent or reality garbage, I found Battle Creek to be a fresh and much-needed change. If CBS won’t reconsider renewing this show I truly hope another network will realize how great this show is and pick it up. If that happens hopefully they’ll have enough sense to put it in a better time slot.
Please renew Battle Creek! It’s one of the best new shows and with a change of schedule could easily match the ratings of some of those other shows that aren’t written as well. The actors are talented, smart story lines, lots of room to grow!
I agree 100%. The show was debuted mid-season (always a bad idea) and then put in a time slot (Sunday night after Good Wife) that continually ran late, making it almost impossible to watch! The actors are great, the plots are good, the concept is good–give the show a chance!!
You are asking way too much of CBS! They do not know what the right thing to do is. They will continue to AX the great programs and leave the garbage. So, all I can say is good luck with that!
You’ve got that right, Hawaiian Girl!!
Every day there seems to be a new petition about POI now….

Excellent shows, Stalker and Battle Creek, What are you doing CBS????
Stalker and Battle Creek should be renewed. The problem is that none of the lead characters are drug addicts or alcoholics (on the show), or having consistent sex and various and any partners, do not mouth profanities every 3 words. The writing is excellent. The actors can actually act with their clothes on. The shows are too good. The story lines not copies of every other show on that week. Keep them on the air.
How many viewers have to say “hey CBS, rethink cancelling Stalker” before you listen? If the audience says great cast, great stories, look forward to it each week, great acting, and we want it to go on”……..what else do you need to know? The moronic Bing Bang Theory, The McCarthy’s, Undercover Boss, and Madame Secretary (we know who that’s about) get to stay on and you want to cancel Stalker, one of the best shows on television people really want to see!?!?!? What is wrong with CBS? You are steadily losing viewers and will continue to lose more unless you… Read more »
Good morning Stella, I could not have said it any better per my previous posts. At this point all we can do is HOPE these clueless IDIOTS with that AX start cutting the crap programs. Who the heck things 2 Broke Girls is really funny????? Along with the other so called comedies, Reality shows, Undercover Boss, etc. as I have stated many times before, they can leave those shows on, however, don’t cancel the shows with intelligence. Oh wait, CBS can’t do that because they don’t have any intelligence!! WOW! I had an immediate malfunction to think CBS has a… Read more »
Really hate to see Stalker cancelled as well as Battle Creek… Maybe they should be given another season…
I agree. Stalker and Battlecreek are good, enjoyable programs. They both warrant a second look.
They get rid of good shows like CSI, and keep the junk. I think they could have given CSI one more season to wrap everything up. A two hour wrap up is very unfair. The show has helped CBS in their ratings, but when it slips or is put on a different day, they are fast to cancel it. That is why I watch other channels. CBS only cares about them selves and not the ones who watch it. I hope people stop watching CBS shows and watch other stations. It would serve them right if no one watched their… Read more »
So Person of Interest ranks 13 out of 24 in both demo and viewership yet CBS short change it with a shorter season and use it as mid season show what a stitch up! There are shows they renewed for full seasons that should have been cancelled.
I agree Shane! I love Person of Interest, however I am ready for the Shaw shenanigans to end. Either get her back, or let her leave the show.
I think its terrible to cancel Stalker. It’s a good show. I think you can cancel those stupid reality shows or some of those stupid comedy shows that are not funny or
The dumb talk shows. Really. Leave Stalker alone.
I totally agree. It is a horrible idea to cancel Stalker. it was one of my faves. Maybe they will renew..just like that dumb mindy kalling show. it never dies.
tysvm for cancelling great tv shows and keeping crap shows on how many csi spinoffs can u keep making ffs
I agree, CBS has a very bad habit of cancelling all the great shows and keeping the Dumb Ass shows on. I truly cannot imagine that enough people watch these lame shows for CBS to cater to the vast minority. I am slowly starting to watch NBC and will become more progressive as CBS continues to cancel shows. I am not saying cancel the shows these people watch, as every person has their likings and dislikes, however, leave the following shows to continue with more Seasons: Stalker; NCIS; NCIS LA; Criminal Minds; Blue Bloods; Hawaii 5 0; CSI Ciber is… Read more »
CBS needs to get rid of the reality shows. Gave up watching a lot of them. However “Amazing Race” is better than shows like “The Bachelor,” etc. At least you get to see different countries and customs and learn something from it.
Lisa, you are right. I think a lot of the other reality shows are rigged. Amazing Race is based on how fast you can do something, how willing you are to do something, and then the luck of the draw with the unforeseeable events like flat tires, taxi drivers not knowing their way. etc.
All the other ones rigged!! Maybe not Biggest Loser.
