Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I was just looking on here to see when season four would start and saw the cancellation notice. How terrible. This was my favorite show on Hallmark. Could you at least do a 2 hour movie to wrap it up?
Oh man! I’ve been waiting for the return, and finally Googled for the start date, SOOOOO disappointed! Please bring it back! At LEAST end it with a little of a ‘finish’, and not so ‘up in the air’.
Total bummer! Please bring back Cedar Cove! Such a great, clean, family friendly show. Total disappointment that it’s cancelled.
Very disappointed! There were several cliff hangers at the end of season 3. Now we will never know what happens. Bummer!
Cedar Cove should have gone onto Season 4. Loved this series
I will miss cedar cove…..it was so nice to watch something other than the reality TV shows littering our channels. Hallmark reconsider, please….we need more shows like this one.
I am a latecomer to Cedar Cove but quickly became a fan. So disappointed to hear it was cancelled
It is disappointing the show will not be renewed and viewers were left hanging. It would have been interesting to see a little more courtroom drama and deliver a more inspiring role model with the Olivia Lockhart character. How did she get to be a courtroom judge? Parallel a younger female successful in her career for Olivia to mentor. Show young girls how dreams can mature. Unfortunately one watching the last season would think the only thing Olivia was about was being caught with romantic feelings for two men. I absolutely loved the scenery, the quality roles for older actresses,… Read more »
Very disappointed and angry. Loved the show. It seems like all the good shows these days get cancelled. It was a show that I looked forward to. Thank u Hallmark!! I think u should rethink your decision.
Mom and I couldn’t figure out why Cedar Cove hasn’t been back on. So I went on the computer and was so upset that it was canceled. We are very disappointed in Hallmark. Pleasssssssssse bring it back. The ending was a cliff hanger and we need closure. Pleasssssssssssse. Pleasssssssssse bring it back. We look forward to watching Cedar Cove on Saturday Nights.
I just get so beyond frustrated with the way TV shows are canceled so easily now days. In the first place, when I was younger one season of a TV show used to be about 25 or 26 episodes. Now it’s actually normal for TV shows to only have about 10 or 12 per season if that much I’ve seen some only have eight. Why so few shows? And if you’re going to cancel our show please have an “ending show” to wrap up and give closure to the story lines instead of just dropping it with us not even… Read more »
It’s very disappointing. The show was so captivating. My family and I looked forward each week to seeing the series. We were sad each season, but waited w/anticipation for each new season. The series ended leaving it’s fans hang in w/no closure. What a bummer!
What?! So disappointed! My teen daughters and even my husband looked forward to watching this show every Saturday night. We loved it! We watch so few shows on TV because most are garbage and now Hallmark cancels one of the winners. It was a great escape and we used to wish that we could really live in a beautiful place like Cedar Cove. We enjoyed all of the characters. We will miss them. Like the idea of a movie to wrap up the story line.
I am so sad, no upset!!! Every time I get interested in a great show, it’s cancelled. I really love the Hallmark channel. Please reconsider your choice of cancelling.
even watching from the netherlands after reading the books. You should not have had an open end like this when you’re decide not to continue. I’ll miss Cedar Cove
