Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Very disappointed!!! Cedar Cove was by far my favorite show. Enough reality shows, I thought I had finally found a series that would continue that my entire family has enjoyed even my husband. Please bring it back.
I think Hallmark Channel is ridiculous for not renewing this series. I think one reason for declining viewers with any series is the long lay off between shows..Maybe if they made more shows that ran longer than a few months, viewers would not have to find another show to fill the time slot left empty because Cedar Cove was not airing…I will miss this show. I loved reading the Cedar Cove series of books and loved the series and cast. I wish Hallmark would reconsider and renew.
I agree totally with Karen Kay’s remarks
I hope Hallmark would at least consider a 2 hour movie in the future to tie up loose ends! Such a disappointment to not have them keep a quality scripted series like Cedar Cove renewed! It was refreshing to watch something DIFFERENT and in a more 40 plus age storyline along with the younger stories too.
That is one thing they certainly should do – provide closure for those fans that tuned in faithfully. I’ll never understand why the best shows get cancelled. Other shows have at least provided some closure for their viewers and I would like to think that Hallmark is of the caliber to do that.
I am so disappointed. It’s hard to find quality programming anymore. This was one of the few shows I religiously watched. Perhaps they can do a reunion show to end the series?
Very disappointed that the show was cancelled. It’s few and far between that you find a show on TV anymore that is worth watching. I probably won’t be watching too much of Hallmark anymore. I don’t want to get hooked on a show and have it cancelled again.
Please don’t take Cedar Cove off hallmark such a good show so tired of reality tv why start a series if you have no intent to finish.
don’t cancel this show
I can’t believe they cancelled this show I watched it every Saturday!
I’m upset I was looking forward to the 2016 Season (4), as I did for each previous season. I don’t know the reasons why, but would like to. Will miss this show, as I’m sure im not alone. Please bring it back.
I am so disappointed that one of my favorite shows had been cancelled. Cedar Cove is one of the best shows on TV. It’s a good clean show with great actors. It will be terribly missed.
I really enjoyed the series. Having read the entire series, I felt they they went too far off in the series. I really feel Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie and Mystery Channel are the best in television.
I really enjoyed the series. Unfortunately having read the entire series, I felt they went far beyond those story lines and did not really stay accurate to them. Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie and Mystery Channel are my absolute favorites. They are such a welcome oasis in today’s broadcast world. Thank you!
Very disappointed to find out Cedar Cove cancelled!! Time to cancel the Hallmark channel! I don’t care at all for the mystery movies they are showing now!
I am disappointed to read Cedar Cove has been cancelled. This was a. good clean show that I enjoyed do much. I hope you will reconsider another season to bring the public to some closure. Thank you.
This is ridiculous!!! One of the best shows on TV and it gets cold yet they keep all the nonsense reality programs in. I’m sick of finally finding a great show and it getting cxld, happens all the time. I guess if there is no sweari g, sex and drama it isn’t food enough for TV. Shame on you Hallmark!!!
