Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I love Cedar Cove!! Like Nancy, I’ve read all of the books. With all of the reality tv on right now, Cedar Cove was like an oasis. With this cancellation, I have lost a lot of respect for Hallmark. This was clean family entertainment. I really hope you will reconsider.
My heart is broken! You could have atleast given us closure and not a cliff hanger! Im done with starting a series, this happens so many times to me, done.
We enjoyed Cedar Cove very much and think that it should continue to answer the quedtions that were left.
I am stunned to learn that Hallmark has canceled the Cedar Cove series. I read all the books and was thrilled to see them come to life with such a fabulous cast. I am truly disappointed and, to be honest, angry that they didn’t give the viewers a proper finale.
Sooooo disappointed that Cedar Cove has been cancelled. Please bring it back
I and my whole family were very upset to hear of the cancellation. This show still had good ratings and a great following by the many Hallmark fans. I hope they reconsider or at least do a wrap up move for the many fans who were upset to be left with a cliffhanger which also says the writers did not see the cancellation coming either. Very disappointed in Hallmark.
Should not cancel Cedar Cove. Why cancel one of
the best shows on Hallmark. Hallmark needs some new shows. am getting tired of the same old shows and reruns.
So Sad! With all the sleazy, violent, gory shows on tv, Cedar Cove was a breath of fresh air. I looked forwarded to seeing my friends from Cedar Cove every week and will miss them and the show. I hope that Hallmark will reconsider their decision and bring back Cedar Cove for at least one more season, just to wrap up loose ends much like Downton Abbey did.
I’m so upset set been waiting on season 4. That was one hour on Saturday night that I know me and my husband would spend together . We like cedar cove ….it’s a good clean show ….
I LOVED this show! I just started tuning in last season. I’m VERY disappointed that Hallmark canceled it. It was the reason I have watched Hallmark. Moving on.
It makes me sick! Why cancel such a great, quality family program. I’m very disappointed in Hallmark’s decision.
I absolutely love Cedar Cove and have been waiting for season four to begin. I was sad to hear it had been cancelled. Please reconsider and bring back this wonderful Hallmark series.
Very disappointed that Cedar Cove has been cancelled. I believe the addition of Colin Ferguson last season led to the demise. He did not fit.
I do think Cedar Cove was much better (cast and story line) than Signed Sealed and Delivered. That show is boring.
I loved Cedar Cove. It is sad that the series was cancelled. Their is a few series that needs to be cancelled, but is still airing. At the least, bring a 2 hour finally or something to wrap the series up. Don’t leave it on its cliff..
