Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I understand why it was canceled: too much negativity, everyone had some bad human characteristic: infidelity, lies, alcoholism, weakness in character by “forgiving” lies, infidelity, alcohol relapse…I was interested in first season but the series quickly degraded to negative scene one after another. If you had written some person with integrity, honesty, heart-warming scenes of good people, the series may’ve survived.
If you’re looking for squeaky clean human beings you will always be disappointed because even the best of us have faults. It’s a question of balance.
I am sorry Cedar cove ended without finishing up the storylines for each couple. It was painful to watch Andie McDowell be so wishy washy always looking like she was in agony, but I wanted to see Jack and Olivia all played out.
I am a Cedar Cove addict and would love to see it back.
I absolutely love this series and would really like to see it renewed. I can’t imagine why the ratings weren’t good because this show is wonderful. Anyway, that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it….LOL
Cedar Cove is a great show. Please try to resurrect it. Love all the scenery and characters, who seem so real.
I agree I love it
I love this show – so sad to read it’s almost over. It’s on season 3 already and two shows each morning. Please revive the show. Dylan Neal is so much better in this than gourmet detective.
Hallmark this is a great show, smart storytelling by Debbie M and in a time of depressing Covid19 we need an optimistic, positive and uplifting show to watch!
Have watched all 3 seasons…fabulous show! Definitely think the characters of Cedar Cove should be brought back for a new season. Cedar Cove wherever it’s location is so lovely I’d love to visit! Come on Debbie start writing a new season for Cedar Cove!
Cedar Cove should have never been canceled. The character development and story lines had endless possibilities. This show is much more relatable than some of the other scripted shows on hallmark.
Yes please bring back Cedar Cove!
Just started watching Cedar Cove. Great to see a story that finds hope in so many situations. I am so upset that it was cancelled. Please reconsider and let us see a show with super actors, great story lines, and a beautiful setting!!!! Bright spot in this pandemic!
I agree
I’ve really enjoyed watching Cedar Cove and hope producers reconsider and return this series
I absolutely loved all three seasons of Cedar Cove! I was saddened when the series was cancelled. I am currently enjoying the reruns now everyday in Los Angeles. I would absolutely be thrilled if season 4 would be written, produced & aired.
Watching this during the pandemic. Great show. Great. Please bring back. Answer the questions! Please bring this show back
Watching Cedar Cove now in 2020 for the first time and love it! I don;t understand why Hallmark didn’t do a 4th season or at least a two hour movie to tie up loose ends. Really an excellent show I hope Hallmark will continue to use it or even bring it back with as many as
the same characters and actors as possible. Maybe asking too much but I can’t believe Hallmark didn’t give the viewers more closure.
A movie to tie up the loose ends would be great. I have enjoyed watching the series very much. In fact right now it’s my favorite. I wait each day to see it Please bring it back
I love Cedar Cove! I started watching it in about the 2nd season and through the 3rd. I was very disappointed that it didn’t go to the 4th. It would have been nice to have them do the 4th to tie those loose ends. Now I’m watching it in 2020 to catch up on the episodes I originally missed. Maybe Hallmark could do a TV movie to satisfy the questions!
