Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I’m so extremely disappointed to learn that Hallmark has cancelled Cedar Cove. This was the ONLY show I watched every week. My girlfriends and I would watch the show together and discuss the plot lines. I even got my dad into watching it. In today’s world with all the violence that accompanies some of the main stream shows it was refreshing to watch this entertaining show that captured the essence of this town and the people who lived there. Just a place where once a week, we could all escape for awhile. I hope you will reconsider.
I agree with you. It was a great show. I looked forward to watching it every week. I’m very sad that I won’t be able to see the main character every week. Hope they can at least do a two hour series finale. I don’t like not knowing what happened to Olivia.
I am also very disappointed to learned that Cedar Cove has been canceled. I was so looking forward to watching the next season.
yes, not fair. they should at least have a finale of the show.
I can’t believe it. It was the best series. The only show I looked forward to watching. I think Hallmark should have finished it. Please – bring it back!!
What? No No NO…why? This show is so good, the characters are great…I finally found a show i really like and was waiting with such anticipation for the 4th season….Please re-think your decision….you are losing a lot of faithful hallmark viewers!
I say we should all boycott hallmark unit they put Cedar Cove back on. It’s really strange how they keep the crap shows on. We pay for cable we should be able to watch what we want to watch not what they want us to watch. Let them take off Christmas in July it’s a whole month of the same movies over and over. Isn’t November December enough of the same Christmas story’s. Let’s boycott hallmark and take back our cable station after all we pay the cable bill. Cedar Cove was one of hallmarks best shows ever. It’s better… Read more »
another good series canceled, I finally found a show I liked and now its gone. what a shame, to leave us all hanging, they should at least have a finale of the show,
Really hope you change your mind and come back for
Season 4! I loved the show. How great can numbers be on Saturday nights anyway? But some of us are home and love a great series.
It seems everytime we get involved in a program and it’s characters the show is cancelled. Am very disappointed and with the decision could be reversed
So sad to hear, all your series are running on Sunday nights. How about something for us who are home on Saturday nights.
I am so disappointed this show has been canceled. It was wonderful and the cast was amazing. I am very sad.
I loved Cedar Cove, the biggest challenge was trying to keep us with the date of the next season. Please bring it back!!
