Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
So disappointed. Was looking forward to seeing the next season. Fantastic actors! Hope the reconsider and bring it back. Love the Hallmark channel! Please reconsider?????
Bummer!!! I’m so disappointed. I was really looking forward to this summer and seeing the show resume. Possible to reconsider?
Thank you
Are you kidding me?? Finally, someone produced a great series, with a real story line, well developed characters, with a great cast, and it’s dropped? Hallmark owes it to its loyal viewers to produce a couple segments to tie up the loose ends and bow out with some dignity. Truly disappointed!
Bring season 4 Not right to cancel this series, better bring it back or I won’t bother to look at the hallmark channel at all, besides all you have is reruns, reruns, reruns so sick of them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve watched a lot of series come and go in my 66 years. Usually (but not always) it’s because of ratings decline. I get that. But what I don’t get is why Hallmark just left so many things hanging. Just like so many other series over the years have done. Why couldn’t Hallmark have been different and brought some closure to the series by the end of season 3. I’ll wager they had decided to pull the plug by the middle of the third season. Please give your loyal viewers some closure. How about a two part movie? Thanks, for… Read more »
So disappointed that Cedar Cove won’t be returning. I have looked forward to it every summer. I even keep the same cable company because they carry Hallmark channel where some don’t. The new episodes of their series such as this is the only thing good on their channel anymore. An occasional new movie but mostly just reruns over and over. Another of my favorites is When Calls the Heart. Guess I shouldn’t say that or they will cancel it too!!
I’m so disappointed that you have decided to cancel Cedar Cove. It was such a wonderful series. It brought calmness and happiness to so many of us who watched it. I looked forward to watching it every weekend. I don’t think it ram it’s course. Please, please consider bringing it back!
Seems like everytime we get attached to a tv show it gets cancelled. Par for the course. We dont seem to matter. Yall do what you want. Bye!!!
Loved this show and waited for every Saturday evening. Just suck that it’s been cancelled. Not sure I want to invest time in other Hallmark series for fear Hallmark will pull the plug on them, too
Cannot believe this! Clean show for the entire family and Hallmark only cares about the ratings. What will you put in its place? What will it take to get it back? Could you at least let us have a few goodbye episodes?
Unbelievable. This is terrible news, we planned our weekend around Cedar Cove. I don’t think we can invest time and energy in any other Hallmark series knowing they may end so abruptly like this. We tolerate the Christmas movies, but we loved Cedar Cove!
I can’t believe that this show was cancelled!!!! It was such a good show! All the good ones get cancelled. I am very disappointed about this. Please reconcider bringing this back!!
So pissed!!!! So many of my friends talked about the episodes and could not wait for it to begin again!! I only found this out it was cancelled because I was searching for the date is was coming back. Great actors and it was nice to have a great story line —with a clean show-no violence, sex ,or bad language! Please people complain and maybe they will rethink this. Hallmark has many shows that are less watched than this one!!!!!
So disappointed! Loved this show and have been waiting for its return. What a sad way to end it!!! Just goes to show ya not to get into the series because of the way they do this!
of it was such anhonor where was the “honor” in the abrupt cancellation-you guys dripped the ball PHOOEY on “youse guys”
