Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Just learning the show has been cancelled.I am so sad. It was a wonderful series.
It makes me very sad that Cedar Cove will not be returning. I have enjoyed ALL of the series shows on Hallmark and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. They have made TV enjoyable for me again as I am saddened by so much of the things that are on TV anymore. I loved seeing the scenery and the values of MOST of the main characters ( you have to have a bad guy to hate, huh?). I truly enjoyed every episode and looked forward to each and every one.
I am very disappointed to learn that Hallmarl cancelled one of the only TV series that I loved in addition to PBS’s family oriented shows. Shame on the executives for not allowing closure to the 1.6 million viewers who have invested 3 seasons of watching, Shame on your greed.
So disappointed to hear Hallmark has cancelled Cedar Cove. A great show with great actors. Please bring it back!
Really liked Cedar Cove. I just googled it to find out when it will be returning because I hadn’t heard. So disappointed! Love When Calls the Heart…hope they don’t cancel it!
I’m so sorry to hear that one of my favorite Hallmark Shows has been cancelled.
I’m so sorry to hear that one of my favorite Hallmark shows will not be returning.
So sad to hear Cedar Cove was cancelled. My husband and I watched every episode! I cannot imagine why such a well-loved show would be cancelled.
This was one of my favorite shows. It is sad when executives abruptly end a show disregarding their audience who have been loyal for 3 seasons. No final show tying up loose ends? I wonder if I should watch anymore Hallmark series. ???
Whose to say this won’t happen again with another Hallmark Series? Why watch another episode of anything if you are just going to cancel shows without a final episode, there’s no courtesy to fans. Why even bother. ??
I looked forward to watching Cedar Cove. It was such a good show for family. My friends and I would talk on the phone and watch together.
So disappointed! This was such a good show, beautiful scenery and great story line. I thought this was such a good Hallmark Channel show. So many of the characters had depth and the writers were good about introducing aspects of current events.
Wow I just can’t believe this. I love this show. This is a huge mistake you leave so much trash on TV but take off the stuff people actually love. Please bring it bk.
Very upset with cancellation! At least hallmark should have had a brief sequel to “tie up” all the unanswered questions! I probably will never start watching one of their scripted series again since they probably will up and cancel that too
I was wondering when the next season of Cedar Cove was going to start, and was very disappointed to find out it was cancelled. This makes me very sad. I loved that show and wish that it would come back. Or, at least have a movie to wrap up the storylines of the show. It has just left us hanging. Very disappointed.
