Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I am just finishing up season three. Power watched them in the last month. I have loved the characters and their interrelationships as well as the setting. I like the refreshing nature of the show and the upbeat way it moves along. I would have watched season 4 and 5. Just got interested lately. Watched it on Netflix and paid for it on Amazon Prime. Real life issues with positive conversations modeling how to discuss difficult things. Very nice. I may actually read one of Macomber’s books.
I am heartbroken that Cedar Cove has been cancelled. A very family friendly, intriguing, series.
Bring it back, please. I LOVE IT!!! Please!
I would also reply on my posted comment Sara. Another new idea for a happy ending to Cedar Cove series. Jack in his heart gets a job as a Editor of a major news paper in new York it would require him to leave Cedar Cove. Jack gets back to drinking because of the demands of his new job and Oliva catches Jack in a lie and admits it to her they break up. Mean while Oliva is so lonely she joins a dateing line on computer. She meets a wonderful man but has no idea it’s Paul all along.… Read more »
OMG!!!! My husband and I loved “Cedar Cove” We made it our date night for each series. We just talked the other day about when it would start again. Just now found out it has been canceled. PLEASE, PLEASE at least let all fans be able to see a ending to this series. We both love Hallmark channel, it’s hard for some us women to have your husband agree to watch a series like this. We had another cable service and switched to a different cable service because our previous cable company did not carry Hallmark channel. It was Cedar… Read more »
I loved that show, was waiting for its return.
I really loved Dylan Neal !! You should have him in more shows/movies… Would love to have had one last show to give us closure with a happy ending storyline, maybe you can do one special show to finish it ?
Why did Hallmark cancel my favorite show?!!! Please bring it back!
I am so disappointed that you have cancelled one of my favorite shows. Wonderful writing and not the same old romantic comedy movie. At least you could have tied up loose ends before cancelling. Please consider bringing it back!!!!
Disappointed. Loved the show. You do need to give us a good ending to the story lines.
Well, I am highly disappointed. I LOVED this show and each character, bad or good. The cinematography was outstanding and a real pleasure to watch. All programs I had been watching have been cancelled, so I was REALLY looking forward to this season’s premiere of Cedar Cove. At the least, you could give us a good, 2-hour series finale to wrap up all the loose ends.
Really disappointed.
This was a program full of life …no violence, shooting, murders, it was a world we all wish for. An escape..even if brief! Please consider bringing it back WITH all the regular actors.
I am very disappointed that Hallmark Channel has cancelled Cedar Cove. I enjoy watching that show, and have been looking forward to the new season. I hope that Hallmark Channel will reconsider the fate of this show.
I can’t believe they cancelled another great show. I thought this show was wonderful and an inspiration. Please bring it back. Over a million viewers is still a high enough number to keep it on.
There were over two million; a bit under a million for 18-48 but Hallmark needs to get real as their loyal core is late 20s to infinity.
Please bring back cedar cove. It was so nice having a show that wasn’t a reality show or a show all about sex. It was a great show that I watched with my daughter and did not worry about the content.
this totally sucks!! this was girlfriend tv night.
