Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I was so disappointed in Hallmark a channel I’m dedicated to for obvious reasons . The series Cedar Cove had me captivated I couldn’t wait each week for is to be on . I’m not a big reality tv watcher so I enjoy a family show like the ones hallmark has on . Please don’t make me go to another network . Bring back cedar cove . I have every episode still recorded and from time to time watch them over and over again . I look forward to hearing some good news about Cedar Cove .
So disappointed, looked forward to the new season. Really enjoyed Cedar Cove, big mistake to cancel a good show…
So disappointed to hear this news, very frustrating to get really invested in a show and not have any idea of what happens with all of the characters. It seems this is our society today, everything is discarded before it even has a chance to make an impact. Really thought Cedar Cove was a refreshing series with great writing.
My suspicions have been confirmed why the show was cancelled after all indications there would be a season 4. Just read AM signed on in a leading role for a new ABC pilot; 1970s set “Model Woman.” As she never really commiserated with fans; I think her comments were limited to a tweet; I assumed she pulled the plug by not resigning and/or exercising a large salary increase built in to a longer contract; hoping Hallmark would not pay it. All the other cast seemed shocked in addition to the fans; as there was rating continuity. The three male leads… Read more »
I loved this show! I was finally happy with something on tv! Please bring it back!!!
I loved Cedar Cove! Really disappointed that it was cancelled. I hate it when they just leave things hanging.
It definitely should have been renewed!! It was a GREAT series!!!!
I can’t believe the show was canceled. Its my favorite show. Finally a good family show and now it’s gone. They could have come back with a decent ending instead of leaving everyone hanging.
Please reconsider and bring back Cedar Cove which was one of my husbands and my favorite tv series.
Please bring it back. I have judt become exposed to it by way of Netflix. I want more. The only readon this show had low ratings is probably due cable tv. It need wide exposure. If everyone I know was to see this show the viewers would sky rocket. Find a way to bring this to public tv
Bring it back! Love this show — one of my favorites. Great characters, values, scenery, etc.
I love Cedar Cove and was deeply disappointed to hear that it was being cancelled! It was such a fun and exciting program with many wonderful characters. I will truly miss watching this show!!!
Loved Cedar Cove! I am so disappointed with Hallmark. You did not even give it a chance. Not sure I will continue to watch anymore series with Hallmark because of chance of cancelling it. I really hate it when networks cancel shows and don’t wrap them up before they cancel them. Shame on Hallmark.
What is wrong with all of you? Way too many shows get put on and taken off the air without really giving them a chance. This show gives us what America needs to be modeling their own lives after. Kindness. Love. Respect.
I can’t believe that this show was cancelled! Who has their head up their ass? Hallmark you suck and don’t know a hit show when it hits you in the eye! Fire all the idiots that work for Hallmark! What is wrong with you? Bad judgement, this was my husband’s and my favorite Saturday night indulgence. And the fact that you can get a man to watch Hallmark is huge. You are stupid people!
