Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I am terribly disappointed that this show is cancelled and without a final ending. Bring back Cedar Cove!
I cannot understand why you would cancel a perfectly good show. So tired seeing smut on tv anymore. Have always looked forward to fresh news shows with so many interesting people. Everybody had their problems, but in the end, seems the whole town would come together to support them. Loved the beautifully quaint seaside town. With so many in the cast, you could never run out of story lines. Please reconsider your decision for cancelling this show.
I was looking forward to Season 4 to see if it ever rains in Cedar Cove. I’ve never seen a movie or TV show filmed in the Pacific Northwest or the Vancouver area with no rain. Just kidding – I think.
IF A SHOW IS CANCELLED YOU OWE IT TO THE VIEWER TO TIE ALL LOOSE ENDS; DON’T LEAVE US HANGING. IT’S LIKE WATCHING A MOVIE FOR THREE HOURS AND MISSING THE END ; FRUSTRATING.
If you are not renewing a show at least finish it without leaving everything hanging. Makes a viewer reluctant to get involved in future series.
I enjoyed Cedar Cove. I didn’t like the way the final episode ended with unanswered questions. Needs another season or a special dvd produced with some episodes to answer the questions leaving it with a good ending.
I have been waiting patiently for season ..so disappointed. Second show I watched on hallmark that got cancelled. I only kept my direct tv for the return of this show. Guess ill be cancelling now.
Really ticked at losing such a good show—get it back, even if it’s just to finish it properly
I loved watching cedar cove. Please bring it back. Take off somethings that not worth watching. Everything I get interested in a show it gets cancelled. There’s not that many shows that I watch. Please please bring it back. It was a good clean show.
First Hallmark Channel cancelled my favorite evening show, The Walton’s. Now, as I eagerly awaited the next season of Cedar Cove, I learn it too is cancelled with all plot points left unanswered. What will you cancel next? Where Goes The Heart? Good Witch? These are the only worthwhile shows on TV. PLEASE Bring back Cedar Cove before you totally lose me as a viewer…..
Say it isn’t so. My husband and I love this show. We would make sure we were home to watch it. Rare that a man enjoys a good Hallmark show. We loved the little town, the characters, etc. Please bring it back!!!!!!! There are too few good shows these days.
Frustrating. Cedar Cove was an absolutely wonderful show. Instead of having reruns of the same shows over and over, why not bring back Cedar Cove?
Extremely upset. I was greatly looking toward to the new season and am extremely disappointed it has been canceled. Just when you fall in love with a series it gets cancelled. If we can’t have Cedar Cove then I would love see all the actors come back and star in another series.
I am so disappointed for the cancelation, please bring cedar cove back
Absolutely devastated to hear this show was cancelled. Do not like reality TV, my mom’s favorite show, beautiful scenery, storyline, etc. Too bad they couldn’t film at least a finale to wrap it all up, or maybe do a couple episodes.. Not a good way to leave it for the dedicated viewers. Hallmark brings good quality TV programming, too bad they ended this one. Just sad.
