Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Cedar Cove was a very well written and acted show. It is such a shame that shows as good as Cedar Cove continue to be cancelled.
So sad to hear of the cancellation of Cedar Cove. It occurred to me when I didn’t see it in the lineup for spring/summer. I thought it was one of Hallmark’s best offerings and looked forward to it each week. Very disappointed story lines were not resolved. At least with Downton Abbey there was a resolution to each character’s story line. Maybe the fact that it was primarily a summer season show, many viewers may be on vacation. Possibly try it at a different time of year. Hallmark repeats so many shows, this at least was a freshly anticipated show… Read more »
Such a disappointment and shock. No finale? Not that, that would help. Sad that the very few shows on are cancelled.
Very sad to know that Cedar Cove will not be returning, it was one of the better shows on tv, so what the ratings dropped a bit, you still had enough viewers to maintain and make a dollar. I vote bring it back, we need shows like it for those who would like to watch something decent, I stopped watching Hallmark channel as much since the show was canceled.
They should have renewed it, great tv show enjoyed it immensly! Very disappointed with Hallmark. At least wrap it up.
I’m very disappointed. There are so few shows that I enjoy watching and am now relegated to seeing reruns of those I’ve enjoyed in the past. Cedar Cove had a great cast, story lines, intrigue and values many people wish existed today. Please bring it back – we’re waiting … patiently
At least have a final movie to resolve all the issues. Please don’t leave us hanging!
Having read all of Debbie Macomber’s books on Cedar Cove, it has been great to see them performed by career actors/actresses. I was looking forward to seeing the next season. Bring them back, please
Wondering if you could tell me which books I might buy to find out what happens to everyone. I know there are so many and would like to buy the ones to fill tn the gaps for me. Thanks
Having read all of Debbie Macomber’s books on Cedar Cove I have enjoyed seeing them come to life on TV. I was looking forward to the next season. I only watch a few shows and it is sad when a good one does not return.
I’m so disappointed in Hallmark. Can’t you at least make a finale to tie up loose ends? We were loyal to the show but you aren’t being loyal to the viewers by just leaving us hanging….
I am so dissapointed! I absolutely loved this show. Please bring it back or at least a final conclusion. I will miss these characters so much.
So disappointed; just googled it to see when it started and it’s cancelled what a shame! Bring it back !!!!
I am very disappointed. The series was great, all the actors were perfect in
their roles, and what can I say about the very beautiful and talented Andie
McDowell? I can’t imagine what the network is thinking, unless it was too much
like a daytime soap opera. Not that it was, the setting was great. I agree with
one of the responders, There were no computer graphics, guns blazing or
explosions. Not to mention sex scenes. This was romance, acting, scenery and
the story line, what a concept. I forgot there was no sceaming, obnoxious
“music”. Bring it back! Please.
This hurts me and my family so bad we look forward to seeing each season of Cedar Cove it’s a great family show without all the ugly sex, vulgar language and was beautifully written we have gotten so close to the characters if you could possibly send me season 4 so I can find out if Olivia choose Paul instead of Jack we never failed to watch it and if you bring it back i will personally promote it to get viewers I pray you take me serious.
I am heartbroken. With all of the violence on television, it was nice to tune into some goodness.
