Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Even though the series was not following the books scripts very closely, I enjoyed the cast and production. My mother and I would have great conversations after each installment.
I am so diappointed you are cancelling Cedar Cove. I looked forward to when it came on. It was a great TV i could watch with my daughters. It would be nice for you to close it out with a movie. Instead of wondering what would of happened to the charters. Very upset this won’t be back on. One of my favorite shows.
I am so dissapointed! Cedar Cove was the one showvI looked forward to. Any chance you will bring it back?
Cedar Cove was a show that I looked forward to seeing. I’m very disappointed that it won’t be back. So many unanswered questions. I’m glad for the 3 seasons that were made. Thanks Hallmark, looking forward to new movies and shows!
Cedar Cove was one of the very few programs I looked forward to watching. I was extremely disappointed to hear of its cancellation. I do hope to see Season 4 some day at least to have some closure. I also love “When Calls The Heart”. Thank you, Hallmark, for some wonderful movies and episodes.
I suspected this would happen when I saw that a similar show by the same author is coming up on Hallmark. A REAL shame to leave us all hanging!!!!
My husband and I really enjoyed watching Cedar Cove together and we’re so disappointed that it has been cancelled. We always had smiles on our faces after watching it. The scenery was beautiful and relaxing and the characters were entertaining – and nice! Please bring it back!!
I think the season is too short. No one likes to watch 10 episodes only to wait 40 weeks for the next season to start.
Really bummed out by the cancellation of Cedar Cove! ~ I know lots of people who watched, and talked about the show regularly. Maybe a Hallmark movie is in order to wrap things up and give Cedar Cove’s loyal fans some closure!
I would have liked a 4th season!
So upset that Cedar Cove series was cancelled! Really love your series including When calls the Heart!! Good wholesome shows the whole family can watch!
Very disappointed that this show has been cancelled. It seems good clean shows with good actors never last.
I really enjoy this show. I was going to change my cable package, so I did not have to wait for the season DVD to come out. I love Debbie’s books and I love this show. Please reconsider!
I am disappointed it won’t be back. I’ve watched since the 1st episode & enjoyed it very much. I guess because it wasn’t filled with vulgar language and gratuitous sex scenes it was doomed to fail! Sad state we have made for ourselves. Thank you Hallmark for giving it a chance & Debbie Macomber for supplying the words.
I have been watching for when Cedar Cove would be back and haven’t seen anything, so I decided to look further and found this. I am really disappointed. I loved the show. Seems like every time I find a good, decent show to watch, it gets cancelled. I guess violence and reality shows are what everyone watches, unfortunately. So sad.
