Last month, CBS execs ordered six additional scripts for new medical drama Code Black. They apparently won’t be needing one of them. The network has now decided to produce five more episodes, bringing the first season tally to 18 installments.
Code Black takes place in an Emergency Room in Los Angeles where underfunding and understaffing pile huge pressure on its staff. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Raza Jaffrey, Bonnie Somerville, Melanie Chandra, William Allen Young, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, and Luis Guzman.
Per the live + same day ratings, Code Black has been averaging a 1.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.92 million viewers. The Wednesday night drama is the network’s 13th highest rated scripted series (out of 18) in the key demo.
Here’s their announcement:

What do you think? Do you like the Code Black TV show? Would you like to see it renewed for a second season or, cancelled instead?
I Love it! I was disappointed when the show did not air tonight 12/16/15. Please have a second season. I don’t watch much TV but I can’t wait until Code Black comes on. Awesome show
Love it!!! Keep it going.
Code black is such a good show. I look forward to watching it. It’s a nice change from all the crime shows like CSI and criminal minds. Please do not cancel.
Really really enjoy this show…please please don’t cancel it…so disappointed that it wasn’t on tonight….(11/16/15) ..can’t wait for the next episode and season. Thanks for an engaging and dramatic show. KEEP IT ON
I love Saving Hope and Code Black. Excellent medical shows.
This show should not be on cancelation list. You big corporate exec’s have no idea what this show and its writers are trying to convey. We put so much into what we do in an emergency setting. The people that take these risks on people’s lives never want to be the hero, it is just human nature to put faith in our most intelligent people. This TV show is the fastest hour on TV leaving us begging for more. Please don’t cancel mid season let the writers write. It is this generation of young kids’ ER and Chicago Hope which… Read more »
December 16 2015 where is my show! I want my Code Black! Please keep Code Black on the air!! I record every episode! I LOVE this show!
Must keep code black!! Code black, scorpion, big bang theory, and madame secretary are the only reasons I have cbs all access with out those shows I would delete the account and the app! An upside because of those shows after I’ve seen the most recent episodes then I start watching other shows on the network like blur bloods an 60 mins. Its win win for cbs my house doesn’t even have tv anymore just internet.
Love this show! I cry every week, great story line and superb acting! Please don’t cancel!!!!
Love thus show!! Please don’t cancel
My husband and I love this show. I would hate to see it cancelled!
Please keep this excellent show on the air! Stay focused, as Megan and Kat say, on the medicine. The ER medicine aspect is very realistic and is what keeps me interested and watching. This is one of the few network shows that’s a standout and worth setting aside time to watch.
Please don’t cancel this show, it’s real, gritty, personal lives are mostly left out of the story, it’s actually about the ER, not the nurses’ and doctors’ sex lives. Love it
This show is AMAZING!! it’s so accurate & realistic. It focuses more on the patients & the situations surrounding them rather than a bunch of doctors sleeping together. It completely sucks you in, you fall in love with the characters & you can literally feel the suspense the entire episode. PLEASE don’t cancel this show!!
I have always been a HUGE “ER” fan and have greatly missed it since it ended. No other medical show has filled the space it left until now “CODE BLACK” is the first show since that focus’ on the environment and medicine more than (or at least as much as) the personal drama of the characters. I truly hope that CODE BLACK has a similar run.
