The doctor is out. There won’t be a second season of the Complications TV show. USA Network has decided to cancel the drama series after one season of 10 episodes.
Complications follows a disillusioned suburban doctor (Jason O’Mara) who’s still dealing with the emotional effects of his young daughter’s death from cancer. He unexpectedly becomes a vigilante hero when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a 12-year-old boy’s life. The rest of the cast includes Jessica Szohr, Lauren Stamile, Chris Chalk, Beth Riesgraf, and RonReaco Lee.
The series got off to a lackluster start in the ratings in late June with a 0.41 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.91 million viewers. Viewership saw a big drop in week two and remained pretty poor for the rest of the season. The 10 episodes ended up averaging a 0.35 in the demo with 1.44 million.
Except for Suits, all of USA’s existing dramas have been way down year-to-year and none of their new ones have been a hit in the ratings (including Mr. Robot).
Despite Complications’ ratings challenges, USA was still considering bringing the show back for a second season. Deadline reports that execs had secured a four-day extension on the cast contracts while they made their final decision. Execs tried to work out an economically feasable deal with Fox 21 TV Studios for a second season but, in the end, it didn’t happen.
The final episode of Complications aired on August 13th.
What do you think? Did you like the Complications TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season, perhaps on another channel?
Loved “Complications”. It is the ONLY summer series I really enjoyed, and did not miss one episode. USA needs to bring the series back for second season.
Very disappointing that USA is canceling shows after one season. Rush was a great show ,different and actors were very good should have been renewed for a second season. Did watch Complications on demand and was getting to like it again cancelled because of ratings. But the very boring show Mr Robot is being renewed and USA IS DOING ITS BEST TO KEEP IT ALIVE WITH ALL THE ADVERTISMENTS. PLEASE USA GO BACK TO GIVING SHOWS A CHANCE TO,GRAB THE PUBLIC, THAT IS WHAT MADE YOUR NETWORK DIFFERENT.
I first saw the 2 episodes of My Robot. Not only could you not understand the mumbling young dude, he sounded boring anyway. Personally, I couldn’t follow the story and didn’t make sense to me anyway. I gave it 3 tries just to see if it would get better. It didn’t and instead of cancelling Complications which was very good, why not cancel My Robot? I am not certain if My Robot will go for the next season. I really don’t care. Hollywood just keeps putting out this kind of junk and is it no wonder why I don’t watch… Read more »
To Mel; I did not think I would keep watching Mr Robot, but I watched every episode and I do not even know why. It is renewed for a 2nd season. I would give away the surprise of the story but will not in case someone who has interest did not watch yet to the sort of shocking end of season. I still did not like Complications. But that is why “they” make chocolate and vanilla.
So sad to hear Complications was cancelled. This was one of my favorite shows; I couldn’t wait for the next episode. I agree that more advertisement was needed, A friend recommended the show; after seeing the first episode I was hooked. I then told others to watch. Everyone in the office is now binge watching. The finale left us anxious to see the next season. Hopefully the network will reconsider; the show has developed a following.
The show was fantastic, I got hooked yesterday and watched the entire season overnight. I did not even know it existed. Mr. Robot is terrible and I can’t get into it… i tried..but complications? It’s a keeper and Jason O’Mara is an excellent actor. His last show was cancelled too and it’s a shame. I think you should focus more on advertising so people know the shows exist.
Hi Emanuel: I guess that is why it is called complicated. There were too many things going on at the same time. Who knew that cop was corrupt until the last series? Who knew what the doc did by blowing up that building? Now he gets into more trouble with more bad guys. The cop was going to kill him and others until he was shot. Self defense you know. That’s how it started in the first place. He didn’t ask for it, it just came to him. I think what happened was there were so many incidents happening all… Read more »
This show is very engaging and thrilling. It should not be cancelled. More advertising was needed to get the right audience. You missed it in advertising.
This show was quite intriguing to me and sorry to see it go. It proves one thing and that is something different and interesting doesn’t make it. I thought the ratings that I read were mostly positive and that should give the indication that the TV station should reconsider putting it back on. It goes to show you that some of the crappy shows do make it. I am unable to understand it. It is more than likely it has to do with sponsorship. Hollywood does what they want anyway.
I thought it was a good show it kept my attention airing it in the summer in my opinion was a bad choice it should have been released in the spring they should just shoot the second season anyway Iet it go straight to streaming websites and applications and on demand then get feedback and decide whether or not it’s worth a third season because I believe it is worth a second season
That’s a good point, Emanuel. This will give some time for viewers to express their opinions but does that mean the station, sponsors, and producers of the show would consider to do it? Personally, I doubt it. I could be wrong though but hopefully I’m right. I would really like to see another season and see what changes will be made so the series will still be exciting and wonder what the end result will be. The best part is all the twists and turns which make your head spin. True, it is gang warfare but it has to do… Read more »
Mel, it morphed into police corruption promoting gang violence and harm of innocents. At some point, the entanglement of hospital and medical people would be far too stretched. I don”t see a plausible way to develop it.
USA has Mr. Robot which is renewed even if it is not your cup of tea. Also Royal Pains had its 7th Season. Covert Affairs had 7 seasons. Complications was not my cup of tea. On the horizon coming January 2016, Colony looks good with one of my favorites actors, Josh Holloway. I suggest USA and others be taken off cable and offer memberships like PBS (and entice well heeled benefactors). That way maybe favorite shows can continue. Have a fun and safe Labor Day everyone!
First Rush, now Complications, loved both of them, both were like watching NASCAR just waiting for the next wreck. USA is going to start loosing viewership if they keep cancelling good shows.
Canceling this show is a BIG mistake!! It was one of the better shows on tv. Someone got this WRONG!!!
I am sorry to see another show not make it because of ratings there are plenty of people who enjoyed complicationsI would like to see more of it and I wish they would reconsider so sad that USA is doing this
Loved the show and the characters!
This was a GREAT SHOW!!!! I watched all the repeats and could not wait until the next episode. This is very disappointing!!!!!!
I absolutely loved this show and was eagerly looking forward to next season! I believe lack of advertising led to low viewership.
