Tonight, USA Network airs the series finale of White Collar and fans could also be seeing the end of Covert Affairs as well. The latter series hasn’t been renewed for a sixth season yet and the show’s dropped way down in the ratings.
On Covert Affairs, operatives Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) and Auggie Anderson (Chris Gorham) work together in the CIA’s Domestic Protection Division (DPD). The show’s cast also includes Kari Matchett, Peter Gallagher, Hill Harper, and Nicholas Bishop.
The fourth season of Covert Affairs averaged 2.27 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The current season has been averaging 1.53 million and a 0.3 ratings — a drop of 49% in viewership. It’s USA’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo.
At this point, it seems likely that USA will renew the show for a sixth and final season, perhaps a short one, to wrap things up. If the cable channel does bring it back, the show may look very different. TV Guide teases that tonight’s finale will feature a death of one character and close calls for some others. This will lead multiple people to making some life-changing decisions.
What do you think? Would you like to see Covert Affairs return for a sixth season or is it time for USA to cancel it?
UPDATE: USA has decided to cancel Covert Affairs after five seasons.
RENEW!!
I love the show I hope it is renewed for a sixth season
It is time to let the show go—Annie is the most annoying character —shes become tedious and uninteresting and the story lines are also tedious and uninteresting—I tape the show every week but don’t enjoy it much anymore.
I think it’s run it’s course. Once the CIA office and personal got less, the story lines got more absurd.
They at least need to allow them to wrap it up with a short season.
Please Don’t cancel. Give this show a final season with reduced episodes to run it through straight without a break. Then concentrate on Annie as as she navigates in the special task force to PROTECT THE HOMELAND. Lets get back to spy stuff. No more Auggie womanizing, let him stay out of sight with Natasha for a while, and more bad ass Mcquaid working with Annie, married or not. Arthur should run, and Calder needs to start doing his job.
I would like USA to let come back for sixth season to finalize it like White Collar.
Please USA don’t leave it the way it is
Maybe change the nights
Tonight’s episode sure felt like a series closer. As much as I like the show, they’ve written themselves into a corner, and I’d rather see them go out on top than drag on for a bad season. As far as ratings go, some time back, an employee of Nielsen admitted over drinks to Alfred Bester that their sample was too small to be meaningful. The ratings system is inaccurate at best and arbitrary at worst, even with better sampling methodology.
It does’nt have to be a bad season if the writers refocus on what the show was about. They should not have wondered off into so much personal stuff.
It sucks about nielson because it makes it all about advertizing. Surely in this day and age we can find a more accurate way to reflect viewship. I don’t know a single person who is a member of the nielson family.
I love Covert Affairs, and have been praying for months now that USA would renew it. Please, please, please renew Covert Affairs, USA!
Perhaps you should pray instead for the end to war, famine, and poverty, you may get a better result.
RENEW!!!
I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF COVERT AFFAIRS SINCE THE BEGINNING. THE SHOW HAS CHANGED QUITE A LOT OVER THESE 5 SEASONS, BUT IT HAS REMAINED AN ENTERTAINING SHOW. I REALLY LIKE THE CAST AND THE VARIOUS LOCATIONS KEEP THE SHOW INTERESTING. PLEASE KEEP COVERT AFFAIRS RUNNING.
Please do not cancel Covert Affairs. I have been watching it from the beginning and still love it. I did not like Harper Hill to begin with, but have ģrown to really enjoy him. Piper is the best. Wasn’t crazy about the added heart problem. I have loved her since Coyote Ugly. This and State of Affairs are my two favorite shows. Do Not Cancel!!!! Best thing going for USA!
Covert Affairs is an enjoyable and entertaining series, the writers do an excellent job with the story lines — they keep you on the edge wondering what will happen next. Will Augie return or travel the world; what about Anne — marriage, back to the agency or private security? Will we have our own Senator? Looking forward to the answers to these questions and the next bad guy; oh, the good guys win.
Renew for at least one more season tie up season 5 where do the characters go do they fallow through with the does Anne marry Ryan what happens to Auggie and tash does Arther run for Senate don’t leave us hanging.
I like and have watched nearly every episode of Covert Affairs since the first episode. Regardless of ratings, season three, and especially season four were the show’s best seasons. This season is good, but my problem was the addition of Hill Harper who I personally find creepy, did not like him in CSI:New York, and cannot figure out why he had been added to the cast. Bring back Anne Dudek and the kids, and drop Mr. Harper from the cast. More than the plot of Covert Affairs, the foreign locations make the program. As to the situation regarding the schedule,… Read more »
