Cristela Alonzo is headed back to ABC. Variety reports the Cristela star has joined the network’s new pilot The Gospel of Kevin.
Alonzo played the title role on Cristela, a comedy about a young Mexican-American woman who works to become an attorney while juggling her responsibilities to her traditional family. The cast also included Maria Canals-Barrera, Carlos Ponce, Terri Hoyos, Gabriel Iglesias, Sam McMurray, Justine Lupe, and Andrew Leeds. The show was cancelled after one season in 2015.
From Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, The Gospel of Kevin follows “Kevin, a down-on-his-luck man who is tasked by God with a mission to save the world.”
Alonzo will play “Yvette, who’s described as tough-talking, but not without compassion. She’s a ‘source of luminescence’ and a ‘warrior for God’ who explains to Kevin that he’s been ‘tasked with a sacred mission.'” She joins fellow castmember Jason Ritter, who will play the title role of Kevin on the ABC pilot.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Cristela? Would you watch The Gospel of Kevin?
If its on ABC, it won’t last. This girl should look elsewhere, ABC has terrible comedies.
