After 10 seasons, it’s time for David Caruso to turn in his sunglasses. CBS has cancelled CSI: Miami, the first show in the CSI franchise to end.
Starting in 2002, the TV series follows a South Florida team of forensic investigators who often use advanced scientific methods to solve crimes. The current cast includes Caruso, Adam Rodriguez, Emily Procter, Eva La Rue, Jonathan Togo, Omar Benson Miller, and Rex Linn.
The ratings for CSI: Miami have declined over the years. Season 10 averaged a 2.1 in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 9.85 million total viewers. That was down from season nine by 13% in the demo (vs a 2.4 rating) and down by 5% in viewership (vs 10.39 million).
While the cop show’s overall viewership is still impressive, advertisers want shows that cater to the demo audience and the network has many shows that attract big overall audiences.

What’s more, after 10 seasons on the air, CSI: Miami is no doubt very expensive to produce and there are already 232 episodes, more than enough to keep running in syndication for many years.
Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, suggested that one of the CSI shows might be cancelled this month. The original CSI was already renewed so it was a guessing game to see if Miami or NY would bite the bullet. CSI: NY has reportedly been renewed for season nine.
Of the cancellation news, CBS released the following statement:
CSI: Miami leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers – led by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue — and its talented cast, led by David Caruso, for 10 outstanding seasons. Viewers around the world will continue to enjoy rebroadcasts of CSI: Miami in syndication and on key digital platforms for many years to come.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that CSI: Miami has been cancelled? Will you miss the show? Was it time for it end or would you have liked to have seen an 11th season?

This is devastating news. CSI:Miami should NOT have been the one to be cancelled. I say due to the cast instability and percentage of audience drop from its peak, CSI:Crime Scene Investigation–the original–should have been the one to go. It has lost over 50% of its ratings since its peak in its season 5. One would have thought also that CSI:NY might be on the chopping block ever since it was placed in the death row timeslot on Friday night, however its ratings has only dropped 29% from its peak in its season 2. But as I was writing this… Read more »
Honestly, I think it was time for the show to end. It had drifted fairly far from solving crimes using forensics and was beginning to feel a lot more like a guilty pleasure show than a mystery/procedural. Plus, it’s become a running gag (at least in my family) that Caruso’s acting ability consists entirely of putting on his sunglasses and making a bad pun. Who knows? Maybe some of the characters will turn up on CSI down the road. I doubt it, but it’d make for a good ratings stunt. Of course, I also think the original should have ended… Read more »
I just learned that C.S.I miami was cancelled.I’m upset! I loved it. When it went on Sunday nights I could’nt get it ..I tried catch up and still could’nt get it. So the ratings of course went down..if others could’nt watch it ..It was shown on a bad night anyhow..Why can’t the stations leave things alone when they are going good?
SIMPLY, I AGREE WITH ALL THE COMMENTS!
I think this is the worst decision that CBS could have made. I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and I along with several work colleagues enjoy discussing the episodes in length after watching them, given i’ve not yet seen any of series 10. In the UK we don’t seem to have a problem with the timings for things, most of the CSI’s are on a Saturday evening, with the exception of normal CSI which is on a Tuesday, however it has to be said out of the 3 shows Miami was definately my favourite, i think for a change it would… Read more »
This is terrible that CSI Miami was cancelled how could it stand another season always flipping off on Sunday nites due to NFL who cares about all the sports they should never had taken it off the Monday nite slot for HAWAII 5 O which is nothing like the original To Bad for cbs you got a problem Keep putting reality shows on no will watch your CBS Shame on You Disappointed Viewer
Just wanted Nina Tassler to know that she has hurt a lot of dedicated CSI Miami watchers. I do understand that the shows cannot run forever and you do have reruns, but just maybe you should have talked to some REAL CSI MIAMI FANS! The decision to move them to Sunday was a very bad one, but who am I? Thats right, the consumer who was not even considered in this decision to cancel. Congratulations Nina Tassler, another bad decision on CBS part.
Yes, moving it to Sunday was not the best idea, but I watched it. It was one of my favorite shows. I am not happy about CSI Miami is cancelled. Why can’t they cancell some of the reality shows.
csi mami should have never been cancel cbs is stuipd.they should have never change the time
Unforgetable needs closure too. Who did it already. Inquiring minds want to know who killed her sister. Something has to trigger a memory. Perhaps it was her ex-fianancee or her mom, or…who done it.
I enjoy watching CSI Miami, of all of the CSI shows it was the only one my family watched faithfully. There was only one character (Greg) that grated the nerves and even then I cringed, fussed, and watched. A final episode would be wonderful. Everyone realizes life is constantly changing and an espisode to give closure would be excellent. Callie and Eric with the kids, Horatio moving on, new leadership in the lab, etc…even some crossing over to other CSI shows would have been great. With some new writers, and some revamping the show could bounce back. We’re waiting….
that’s horrible news!! I agree, I would set my DVR for 2 hours for CSI Miami because I got sick of it being cut off due to poor scheduling!! I have faithfully watched CSI Miami & am soooooooooooooo disappointed that its being cancelled. It’s a great show & its here in FL which is unusual for shows. Horatio ROCKS!!! They will all be missed =(
I’m super mad it’s CBS fault that the ratings went down. It always come on late so now one can see it because we have to be sleep by eleven to get up for work in the morning. You could have put it on another time or day so we could see it. I don’t like the regular CSI or CSI:NY. This was a bad move.
soo sad they have decided to cancel Miami, should have been NY before it .. although I actually like NY
if the network put the show on on a different day when no sports would interfere the ratings would go back up!
please CBS rethink your decision! what’s CSI without Miami?!
Huh? The poll was a choice between the two NY and Miami??? Where was Neither??? I am sure the ratings declined since it was nearly impossible to tune into the program on ANY given week. The show would usually be off by more than 45 minutes due to sports programing. Because of course sports never run over, so when scheduling the show it would be beyond anyone to foresee that they should just schedule the show later so people would know when to tune in. I can only say I have attempted to watch every episode of this show, as… Read more »
It’s about time. The show had lousy writing with no sense of realism at all.
